You know, I haven't played Civilization since the very first one (way back on a Mac Classic!) but it seems like the series really hasn't evolved greatly since then. The graphics are much better and I'm sure some non-superficial things have been enhanced too, but the flimsy diplomacy and board-gamey fighting brought back memories of that original Civilization.

Civilization IV was fantastic and I believe is still regarded as the best in the series. Based on its strengths, I picked up Civilization V on Steam recently when it was on sale for $18, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

"What if everything you see is more than what you see--the person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a secret door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it, or you accept that there is much more to the world than you think. Perhaps it really is a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things." - Shigeru Miyamoto on secret doors to another world
