I was considering downloading this game on PSN, but wanted to read a review first. Luckily, this is the only review I found, and it's brilliant. It's actually one of the best I've read from you. It seemed as if every time I wanted to say "so what, Game X is similar--" you would have a smooth rejoinder to silence my inner critic. Expertly paced: kudos. Looks like I have a game to play!

I second this, though I bought the game off of EmP's recomendation. I unfortunately had to put it down due to the film, but I've been meaning to restart and pick it up again.

!! I somehow missed Emp's review.

EmP didn't review it. I always felt OD's review was strong enough that I never needed to.

But I'm very vocal on how outstanding the game is.

Never heard you say anything like that before.

Then I'll even it up by saying he's written nothing of worth since.

Nothing.

Neither have I. I now have something new to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving -- A COMPLIMENT BY EMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Er...anyway, thanks for the kind words everyone, even this many years after I've written that review. It probably is one of the ones I'm most proud of, especially since I was still new to the community and, while improving, I really wasn't doing anything particularly noteworthy at that time.

I'd say that even now, the only real complaint I could muster about Alundra is that some of the boss fights tend to take overly long due to them having a ton of durability (and, even then, I read they toned that down from the Japanese version) and that's a half-hearted complaint. If I was to fashion an OD All-Time Top 10, that game would be very near the top, I'd wager.

EmP likes the second Alundra better.

You heard it here first.

I just downloaded this game, and played the first bit and met Jess and saved my game.

That is all.

Also, Jess says "You know what I'm saying" more than LL Cool J, which is really strange.

I love Alundra. Oh, so glad I happened upon that game!

Now Alundra 2 on the other hand...

Isn't Alundra 2 the '3D' one? =T

Yeah. It's ugly and a poor attempt at a 'comedy' game.

I liked the review but not the game. I felt the controls were at times very clunky and often the jump landing points seemed only half a pixel wide. The story was pretty good, world exploration was very fun and the characters were interesting. I would not give it a ten but if you like frustrating jumps from time to time then I would recommended it.
