I just saw a bug. I took the Sacred Herbs job, and the message was (note the %C part):

'Your quest for the herbs was full of hardships, but eventually you returned from your excursion to the mountains with herbs in hand. The monk was absolutely delighted with the results and offered to throw a party in your honor, but you were tired and hungry and without much gold on your person. You assured him that the promised payment of %C gold would be sufficient. Disappointed--almost suspiciously so--the monk forked over the gold and headed off to smoke the sacred herbs in private. You wondered if you'd done the right thing when you turned down the party, but it hardly matters; your pockets are now heavier with gold coins!'

But I did get money.

Not sure how to make a sig? While logged into your account, you can edit it and your other public and private information from the Settings page.

I agree with Zigfried. 10% seems fair. Even though he is clearly a paper tiger who gets far, far more credit for 1-0 wins than punishment for 213-1 losses. Thus, I thoroughly protest this game's increasingly socialist bent, and furthermore, I do verily, sir, respond in turn to your erstwhile gauntlet and say truthfully I yearn for the day when I shall topple you from the leaderboard!

But still... that's like doing better in your own little game than I do in my own little game... the point is interaction, through battle, through robbery, through alliances.

None of that is happening right now.

Jason's right. The only way that doing jobs and sitting on the money would work for any length of time would be if you were at your computer non-stop 24/7. I was away from my computer for 8+ hours tonight drinking and watching college basketball. I come home and immediately lost 4620 to Schultz because he attacked me immediately when I logged in. That means I had roughly 46,200 in my on-hand money via property gains because I had under 50 when I stopped my last session.

Now, I am skeptical about how Jason says bounties will be lucrative later on the game as compared to just jobs and property interest......but I will back him up on the importance of buying property and making big-time cash on it.

Bounties--all of them, not just high-level ones--are now calculated so that they're worth more than three times what they formerly were. This puts them more in line with what I intended for them all along, and there's every chance that they'll go up beyond that in the near future if I determine that the bounties aren't in that 'sweet spot' that I'm aiming for.

Oh, I'm not arguing with that so much as I am wondering where the player interaction comes in.

But probably the best thing said in this whole discussion was that it's too early yet to tell how the whole thing will pan out. I've stated my current concerns, now I'm gonna play for another week and see if they change.

A suggestion to make the battle log more useful to players not in the USA - could you have the local server time displayed on the screen?

I'm actually not attacking you for the potential experience gain (and with how super-rare that has been, I would have to pump my agility up super high to be able to count on that with any reliability). In fact, I was rather irritated when I gained 143 XP off of you, because that meant I leveled up and blew right past an energy replenishment point without using up that energy!

Zigfried--that's interesting. I wonder what is more beneficial long term. It's not as clear as I thought. You would probably have gotten the levels anyway, and they are tougher to come by later.

So maybe there IS a good reason for the high-level players to beat up on the lower-level ones, and I was doing something right without even knowing it. The mathematical modeling for that would be beyond me. There's a lot of neat arithmetic problems in this game and there's just no time to work through it all!

Since you're evidently doing the maths, it won't have escaped you that at least until you have a bundle, the humble swampland provides a bigger gain vs. cost than any of the more expensive lands do, and buying a new fortress negates a sizable bunch of land, trading it in for potentially more combat power to steal gold and claim bounties with. It's almost painful to have to buy the pricy land and then squander it by putting a chicken coop on it, to say nothing of the more expensive options.

Diminishing returns to scale make sense, as otherwise someone who got a small lead could run away with the whole thing. I think that part of the game is VERY well done, with successive swamplands being more expensive, etc.

I actually have written some programs to determine what best to buy, when. The results have surprised me a bit. I've had to shift moneymaking strategies and character improvement several times based on what I've seen, and I'm probably still missing something huge.

I'm going to echo the "dump all money with Chuckles" button idea.

Actually now that I think about it, avoiding a "dump all money" button gives that much more of a chance for you to get caught with the money, which can be a great equalizer--the people with more money being the bigger hogs.

Oh, I found one more small bug. In the jobs screen, if you click [101-200] it becomes [101-120].

Bug/omission: during the "Deliver the Package" mission, one of the outcomes doesn't display the reward cash. Verbatim:

"The package looked a bit suspicious to you, but you decided not to ask questions. You couldn't afford to, not when this kindly old man was offering you so much potential wealth! You accepted his money and the package, then dropped it at the appointed place. Later that day, you heard stories about some sick freak who had anonymously left a severed finger on some poor maiden's table. What were the odds, you wondered, that another fellow would deliver a package to teh same house that you did on the same day? It was uncanny, to be sure..."

Suggestion: let bounties time out, or alternatively, do not provide immunity for being "away" to someone on the bounty list. As it stands, people who get a bounty placed on them before apparently abandoning the game (hello, jerec and EmP) will be on that list forever.

I was unaware there was a bounty on me.

And it's bloody stupid that there was. What with my class being so bloody broken, I won a sum total of 2% of my fights so how could someone decide that I needed ridding of? If the bounty system is just in place for random people to randomly bounty other random people, then it strikes me as without any purpose at all.

Oh, I agree, bounties are handed out way arbitrarily. Why, earlier today a low level player placed a bounty on me after I'd killed him some 20 times for 1 exp and spare change each time and robbed his sole building blind the moment he put it up. That bounty was clearly uncalled for!
