An interesting review. I'm not sure I quite got a full idea of just how it sets itself apart. Is it just by being better?

Still very much unconvinced. But then it has Resident Evil in the title. I'm pre-programmed to rile against it.

It's horrible. I must fight the urges.

Dang, Lewis, I just posted this thing 5 minutes ago.

If you come into RE5 with the preconceived notion that it isn't going to set itself apart from its predecessors or competing franchises, I don't think you're going to find it to be that special. Basically RE5 is a continuation, both in how it is played and how it plays out, of RE4. I love RE4, consider it to be one of my most favorite games, and naturally found myself liking 5 almost just as much simply because of the look and feel. The fact that you can play through the whole game with a friend makes the experience all the more memorable.

Nice concise review. I didn't think it was possible for an RE game, or at least not the later ones. Not entirely sure if I fully believe the argument, either (this almost might've been a little too short), but that's alright. The way you talk about it definitely makes it sound promising. I'd seen some previews for this none, and it honestly didn't strike me as anything near as good as RE4. That you praise it the way you do makes me think that it can match that game. Which is great because RE4 was fantastic.

I do have to wonder what some of these enemies you elude to are and how to fight them, though... But I'm guessing you left that out to prevent spoilers, which just makes me want to see it more. Shame I don't have any real next-gen consoles. =/

Wow, way to go for making your review nice and concise. Would work great in any magazine, good job.

I'm with Lewis, though, that there seems to be something missing in your argument, especially since I'm playing through it right now and not finding it to be that great. I mean, it's a GOOD game, for sure. But GREAT? The jury's still out.

I will say, it's the game RE fans have been waiting for. An RE that takes itself seriously on all fronts.

I suppose I am going into it with preconceptions. Not enjoying a single instalment of a lengthy series so far tends to do that to you. When 4 "updated the template," I thought it still fell in about five years behind the horror pack. They've always struck me as lazy games; not in their visual design, certainly, but in terms of exploiting certain mechanics for cheap scare tactics.

At least, it would seen, they've done away with the horror this time. At least quite a bit.

I might try this out.

This review feels a little disjointed. It's an interesting collection of thoughts... but it seems to flit over certain issues that you claim are important, but don't really explain that well. Hope that doesn't come across as harsh, as I generally think you're quite possibly the best writer on this site.

Thanks guys. You're right Lewis, about it being disjointed, etc. I'd delve into boring and tedious reasons for why it's like that, but I'll just cut to the chase and explain that, once I have a spare moment, I plan to give it a makeover.

Ultimately, it lacks the same thing's that Probester's review lacks: a clear idea of WHY this game is enjoyable.

In my review, it may go the other way, why the game ISNT enjoyable. Then I'll be kicked off Devil's Lair and my name will skyrocket through the industry on a space ship made of controversy. Yes!

In reply to Zipp's comment that this game takes itself seriously on all fronts:

I totally disagree, and that's why I'm enjoying it. The game is utterly ridiculous, but delivered with complete deadpan. Occasionally I start to think "this would be a genuinely good story" until I suddenly snap out of it and realize that the plot IS total nonsense -- but in the adorable Capcom way that makes over-the-top games like DMC so endearing and, dare I say it (I do!), gripping.

The game's thoroughly absurd, but I love it, even if there is one really boring part.
