*Spoilers, obviously*

Assassin's Creed was about a young man (his name eludes me at present) living in the 22nd century who is suspected of being an assassin by profession, though he believed he had left that life behind him. A scientific firm disagreed and abducted him to research the contents of his mind, believing that within his DNA lay hidden the mysteries known to his ancestors hundreds of years before. With a special machine, they were able to send him back in time to relive those memories as his ancestor, a taxing mental process that nevertheless seemed destined to lead them to the location of a hidden artificat that will gain the corporation power in the present-day, 22nd century.

Along the way, the young man learns that he has not only an ally in the form of the young secretary--who is the reason he's not forced to the breaking point as he investigates his ancesotr's memories--but that there are other assassins outside who mean to break him out before he can give away the location of the artifacts. He's not the first to be held captive in the building, he learns, and by the end of the game (after a rescue attempt on the part of those assassin's has apparently ended in their death) he sees messages left for him by his predecessors, scrawled in blood that he can only see now because mysterious new powers are awakening within him.
