Title: Final Fantasy XIV 2.0
Posted: October 14, 2011 (05:29 PM)
As some of you already know, I was looking forward to this game for an absurdly long time, and was pretty disappointed when it came out.

A little while ago, Square Enix announced just how radical their changes to the game were going to be, and it
here is what the game currently looks like.

Also, asians.

Your screen capture makes the current game look worse than the current game actually looks (at least on my computer), but I agree that some streamlining could definitely help. If Square-Enix is able to streamline the interface so that it's easy to play and enjoy with a controller--and sure, pretty things up a bit more--it could become a welcome entry in the series when the PS3 version is ready to go, instead of the red-headed stepchild that it is right now. I hope, though, that the company is hard at work on Final Fantasy XV and that it really does a lot of things right. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is looking fantastic, of course, but a proper new story with good characters and a deep, non-linear world (more along the lines of a Final Fantasy VI but with today's tech) could be absolutely brilliant.

The reason it looks so crappy on my screenshot is because the game isn't optimized very well for my setup. They said the 2.0 release is going to include an all-new game client; one that's optimized far better than the current one, so you won't need a higher-end PC like yours to get fantastic graphics out of it. While my own PC isn't pathetic, by any means, it's definitely not the best of the best. Hopefully, their new client will improve stability and optimization across the board, and with the path the new director of the game has been taking it, it certainly seems like that'll be the case.
