Post-Christmas Blues
December 29, 2006

Christmas was pretty damned hectic this year. My family decided to break the tradition of a reunion in favor of other plans; my dad, stepmom, and their family went to Vegas, a few of my cousins, aunts, and uncles went up to Lake Tahoe, and others simply didn't feel like coming. Bleh. But I still went to my grandmother's house, helped her cook, clean, and wrap presents until 3 AM on last days before Christmas...

Then I got sick and spent most of Christmas Eve in bed with the flu. (I'm still getting over it) I didn't do much on the big day either; I just played some pool, watched some football, the James Bond marathon, and the History Channel. Though not everyone showed up this year, just seeing relatives and catching up makes it all seem worthwhile.

Anyway, here's what I got:

Twilight Princess
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Tales of the Abyss
Final Fantasy Tactics + PS1 memory card (my gf got me this, not FF III DS as I predicted)
The French Connection (both movie and hardcover edition novel)
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Wheel of Time Book #11: Knife of Dreams
Paid to Play: An Insider's Guide to Video Game Careers
Green dress shirt + tie
Silver dress shirt + tie
Black sweater
Belt
Flannel pajamas
New bedsheets + comforter
$20 gift card to Borders/Waldenbooks
Box of Godiva chocolate

So, it has come and gone. The yule logs have been devoured, the lights are slowly fading away, and radio stations are playing regular music again. Now to look forward to next year...As far as reviewing goes, I'll likely finish off my PS2 and GC collections while focusing more on the Wii, DS, Genesis, and Intellivision. I had planned to barrage Gamefaqs' review queue with a slew of reviews to ring in the new year, but I just don't feel up to it anymore. =/

That sounds like a pretty sweet haul! It sucks that you were sick while unwrapping most of that cool stuff, but you'll have it to comfort you long after your illness has fled in the face of your body's immune system.

I want to check out that Insiders Guide to Video Game Careers. I don't want one, but the book sounds interesting. I'm surprised that you aren't playing Twilight Princess over Tales of the Abyss. I know that you'll probably plow through Tales of the Abyss, but I thought that Twilight Princess would be the first game you'd pop in.

I've actually played a lot of Twilight Princess on my cousin's Wii since it was released. I just want to knock out Tales of the Abyss first so I can get fully absorbed in TP later on, now that I have my own copy.
