My girlfriend is getting me Final Fantasy III for Christmas.

At least, I think so. When i asked for a hint, all she said was "it's a game that involves jobs." Ever since I told her that I hadn't played any of the numerical Final Fantasy series, she's been trying to get me to try some of them. I'm more of an action/adventure/fighting kind of gamer, but I'll give an RPG a chance once in a while. She's a fanatic about any games involving dragons (hence her obsession with Final Fantasy), so I think I'll get her Drakengard 2 this year...

Speaking of current games, Jump! Ultimate Stars rocks.

The DS's latest import features 300+ characters from 41 anime series. That's a lot to unlock and choose from, even if only a fraction of them are actually playable fighters. I've logged about ten hours on the story mode, but I've unlocked a little over half the roster. The game has been vastly improved in terms of game mechanics; all the old characters have been upgraded with more moves, better defensive tactics, and edge grabbing. Even the Support characters are actually useful this time. All it needs is a few grabs and counters, and it could be the wannabe Smash Bros. game that DS owners have been waiting for.

They've also scrapped the old Koma Creation concept (you know, that horribly tedious menu system that forced you to match up character mugshots with their respective manga panels?) in favor of "evolving" your character by spending bonus points to buy more advanced forms. Considering that the Story Mode doesn't offer nearly enough points to fully upgrade every character, you're now forced to rely on the game's Arena/Tournament Mode or going on WiFi and *****-slapping some Japanese gamers around.

Amazingly, the online multiplayer isn't hindered by much lag. It's not as smooth as Mario Kart, but it's a hell of a lot better than Lost Magic or Star Fox. Too bad the game's AI sucks ass. I've seen at least three enemies commit suicide without any assistence from me. =/

Bleh. Expect a review from me some time next week.
