I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic, daff.

I'm dead serious.

I actually saw them live once because I got free tickets. I'll probably get the album as well even though it's guaranteed to suck big time.

I saw them a few summers ago and loved it. For one they can play everything on their albums perfectly live. They are also really fun. From the strategically placed fan that gives the singer a hair blowing in the wind effect, to the keytar solo.

They were charging like 30 bucks for a t shirt though and that kind of pissed me off.

concert shirts tend to be ridiculous with any moderately big band, I remember being drunk enough to shell out like $25 each for a couple of Isis ones when they played on St. Patty's Day a while back.

I had a completely different experience and thought they sucked live. Lots of energy and I had more fun than I thought I would (I'm not a fan of them at all) but nowhere near as good as their recordings. Some songs were ok but some were way off with lots of missed notes and mistakes. One of their guitarists was completely drunk as well. It was also interesting how all the metal heads were on one side and all the guitar hero fanatics were on the other side. I was stuck in the middle.

Just saw this:

They're awful here, even worse than when I saw them. I guess their performance varies and depends on how much alcohol they had before the show.

Yeah, concert shirts are always ridiculously expensive. My Ozzy T-shirt cost me thirty-five bucks, and the fabric is really cheap. (On a side note, I was always pissed that they weren't selling Ozzy zippos at that concert. I don't even smoke and I wanted one. "Goodbye to Romance" without a lighter? Forget about it.)

The problem recently with Dragonforce is that their "Through the Fire and Flames" has gained momentum for being the toughest song in Guitar Hero III, when in fact the actual guitar talent that goes into that song is minimal. Listen to it closely: They essentially just pick one note, hit it over and over again (very quickly), and throw a few slides in there to pull the illusion that they're going all over the place. Listen to Van Halen's "Eruption" sometime (or, hell, even the live Rhoades Tribute version of "Suicide Solution") if you want to hear somebody really flip out on a guitar, or just research Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck to find out that true guitar-playing skill isn't just about how many notes you can hit, or how fast you can hit them.

I see Dragonforce as Nightwish with a male singer. That's not a compliment.

agreed. power metal as a genre is way too cheesy and melodramatic for me, and shit, The Fragile is like my favorite album of the 1990s.

...

There's someone else here like me. I feel so blessed.

Daff is my new best friend.

Long Live Blind Guardian!

Wow, a lot of responses on this one.

Dragonforce definitely isn't one of my favorite bands or anything, but if I'm in the mood for some crazy guitar action I'll pop them in. When I saw them live it was in a small club where bands in my experience sound the best, as opposed to a huge outdoor festival.

I mostly go to punk shows and i don't know if I have ever paid more than $15 for a t-shirt. This is probably why I have way too many t-shirts and can't seem to get rid of them because of sentimental value.
daff daff - June 06, 2008 (03:27 PM)
Club performance that I think is pretty good.

True True - June 06, 2008 (07:07 PM)
You'll learn, Daff, that this place is good for two things: Game reviews and people making fun of other people's music.
Halon Halon - June 06, 2008 (08:42 PM)
Dragonforce are definitely a technically great band and there's no denying that. Herman Li is one of the better shredders out there. With that being said they definitely spend a lot of extra time in the studio; I wouldn't be surprised if they speed the songs up or layer the guitars several times.
bluberry bluberry - June 07, 2008 (01:11 AM)
technically proficient is how I like my music, I just listened to an hour-long drum solo.
EmP EmP - June 07, 2008 (03:36 AM)
That's not technical. That's just masterbation.

I always got bored (at the very most) fifteen minutes into a show off solo.

>.> I like DragonForce.

I think my brother would agree with Suskie, though. He plays guitar for real and knows what he's talking about (or at least I think so), and that's the very reaso he hates them. He also thinks they sound gay/girly, but that's beside the point. >_>

Regardless, I like them because of their sound, I guess. Also because I tend to giggle a lot whenever I listen to them (seriously - some of it just sounds silly as hell). It's great.

<_<

I also like Blind Guardian and Nightwish (what I've heard of them, which isn't much). But I like a lot of things.

Could be worse, though. At least we're not talking about someone who likes Cannibal Corpse. Ugh.

"I like DragonForce ... I also like Blind Guardian and Nightwish"

I no longer love you.

;_; Meanie... I don't hate other people just for their taste in music...

*sniff*
