Can someone give me an anime reccomendation?
March 24, 2008

It's been a few years since I've gotten into an anime series and I have the urge to try out a new one. I've found that reviews online aren't very reliable. The last series I got into was Berserk and that was after overhearing two guys talking about how good it was.

I like big fighting robots, anything with a cool plot, and fantasy/sci-fi stuff. Basically I don't like anime comedy, porn, or the overly political series.

If you have any recommendations or a good site to check out reviews of newer stuff I'd love to hear them.

On another topic I bought Scene It for 360 and it is really fun so far. It comes with four buzzer controllers and is similar to the board game. The nice thing is that everyone can answer every question and there is no game board and dice rolling. My only problem is the amount of questions and scenes of old movies. I knew most of the movies going back to the late 70s, but none of the black and white stuff. My 18 year old brother was getting pissed because he hardly knew any of the movies in the game. Hopefully they make a download or something for people born after 1985 or something.

I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell. Watch the movie first, then check out the series, Stand Alone Complex.

I haven't seen the anime, but the Naruto comics are extremely good. I'm pretty sure that you can find them chopped up on YouTube to get a preview. The first episode of SpeedGrapher held some promise, and I've been getting tons of recommendations for Bleach.

That's about all I can offer.

Do you still have any of your old anime? If so, you might want to check them on Amazon. A lot of the stuff from our day is really hard to find. I recently sold Battle Angel, Riding Bean, and Gunsmith Cats for quite a bit.

I tried watching a few episodes of Naruto on Cartoon Network. It's has a good story, but there are a lot of filler episodes. I saw an episode of Bleach and didn't really get what was going on, but it seems like it could be good.

As for older anime, I either tossed or sold all of my VHS stuff, and I think all of my dvds are newer. I was just thinking about how I'd like to watch Venus Wars though. Maybe dub it over with some Beavis and Butthead.

As for Ghost in the Shell I remember being disappointed in the movie, but that was in the 90s . Maybe I'll watch it again.

Naruto is nothing special. It has an over-reliance on very emo characters who will always go over the unique and less "there is a dark fire burning in my soul!" types, much to everyone's chagrin. There will be characters you like. They will amount to nothing. If you're looking for a Jump anime, One Piece beats in just about every way. But only in sub. 4Kids slaughtered it.

Check out the following:

Bubblegum Crisis
Kannon
Trigun
Gungrave
School Rumble
Gundam Seed

All six are very different and rank among my favourtites. Veoh.com is a great place to watch anime of high quality via a stream.

If you like anime with big robots and a cool plot, there is no reason for you not to be watching Code Geass RIGHT NOW. It has both and has them in droves. Probably the best anime of last year.

Aside from that, EmP's got a solid list that spans several genres, and Ghost in the Shell is a good one too.

Don't watch Naruto, unless you really want to get into 200+ episodes of bad characters and filler.

For animes, Escaflowne if you are that much into big robots since that one has quite a bit of them without going into the meaning of life with politics.

If you want manliness, go for Hokuto No Ken anime or the Jojo Bizzare adventure manga. Both are rather old, but still, like I said, manly.

If you want awesomeness that just keeps on getting better and better and you like saying arrrgh a lot and drinking grog, then One Piece is the way to go.

If you like scrawny femboys that harbor secret incestual fantasies about having butt sex with their older brother, then Naruto.

Naruto it is then...

Thanks for the input I'm gonna check a few of those out this week.
