PS3 for $399
October 16, 2007

So is anyone going to pull the trigger on the PS3 now that it will be 399? It's missing a few things the more expensive SKUs have, but the only one that matters is backwards compatibility. I was going to wait to buy a PS3 until there were at least a handful of "must have" games out for it, but at the same time I want to be able to play PS2 and the occasional ps1 game. I'm thinking about trying to find a deal on a used or refurbished 60g PS3, but I'm in no hurry.

To be honest, I would still like a PS3. Ratchet & Clank and Haze are games I truly want. As for the backwards compatibility, I'd probably just use my PS2 to avoid resolution problems and so on. Losing Wi-fi kind of sucks, but a wired connection is more reliable anyway.

My main concern are the complaints about the PS3 being more difficult to program for. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 will probably brick in a few months. Tough call.

The part I find confusing is that Sony still doesn't understand its own customer-base. Hard-drives are not the problem. People just want an affordable system with the games to back it up.

I actually think a 20g hard drive is fine unless your downloading a lot of video. I delete demos after I play them and most games don't take up a whole lot of space.

The only game I'm interested in for the PS3 is Killzone 2, not because I expect it set a benchmark for the FPS genre, but rather because I think it's going to tank somehow or another. I can't be darned to buy a console where I expect the only game that intrigues me will fail.
