Secrets/Easter Eggs

Catch The Eel

It has been said that you need the illeagal lure to catch the 20 pound eel at the bottem of the fishing pond.  This is not true.  Sure, its harder, but you don't have to waste time looking for the lure.

All you have to do is walk quietly with the iron boots to where the fish is waiting, Z-target him, walk quietly back to the bank so that you can cast, cast your line, lure the eel close to you and then let him bite.

The first couple of times you will probably reel the line in all the way before he bites, but after a couple of tries he will bite.

Extra Bottles

To get extra bottles in the game, you must first have a bottle and the Biggoron claim check.

Now, find a place where you can capture a fish or a bug.  Select a bottle from the subscreen to use it as one of your "C" items.  Attempt to grab the fish or bug with the bottle and just before you capture it, access the subscreen.  Select the claim check and set it to the button that was assigned to the bottle you are using.  If you did it properly, you should have an extra bottle instead of the claim check.

I suggest you use that after getting the Biggoron Sword.  You can use other items other than the claim check; just make sure it's not a neccessary item to complete the game!

Hidden pictures

Go to the place where you first encounter Princess Zelda, in the courtyard of the castle.  Look into the window on her left, as you're entering the area.

Pictures of Yoshi, Princess Toadstool, Mario, Bowser and Luigi can be seen.  Look from different angles to see them all.  Throw something into the window with Mario to receive 20 rupees.  Throwing things into the other windows will result in a lit bomb being tossed back at Link.

Hint: Great view of Zora

Note: The Silver Gauntlets and Lens Of Truth are required for this trick. Go to where Link received ''Ferore's Wind'' at Zora's fountain, at night. Life the rock in the middle using the sliver gauntlets. Fall down the hole, then put on the Lens Of Truth and kill the Skulltulas. Climb up the ladder and kill the Gold Skulltula. Look over the ledge to see a great view of Zora's fountain

Hint: Illegal fishing lure (sinking lure)

Use the following steps to get a better fishing lure that can catch more fish. As an adult, walk to the log that is sticking out in the pond. Walk around on it awhile to find a sinking lure, that can catch fish almost every time. Note: The lure may only be used once, and if used to catch a record weight fish, the counterman will not give Link a prize. The sign on the tank will also be marked with "With illegal fishing lure."

To get the sinking lure at the fishing pond, walk along the walls and you will eventually find it.

The sinking lure may be found more than once. For example, in one game it can be found for the first time in the little stream by the rocks by the wall in the fishing pond. Quit fishing, then return a few minutes later. Walk on the log in the water, then go over to the same location to find the sinking lure again.

Play the fishing game by using the Scarecrow's Song or complete the Water Temple as an adult. Get up to it in Lake Hylia. Go across the pond to where the lily pads are located. Walk around for a short while and you should find the sinking lure. This is the only way you can catch the 20 pound eel in the middle of the pond, because it stays at the bottom. The reward for this fish is the Golden Scale, which allows you to dive 12 feet underwater.

Swordless Link

This is a very interesting trick to say the least, with plenty of variations.

First, you must battle Ganondorf.  After defeating him and racing out of the castle, the battle should now begin between you and Ganon.  After Ganon knocks the sword out of your hand, save your game.  Now press 'Reset' on the N64.

If you did this correctly that game file will show Link without the sword.  You can get the sword back by selecting it on the subscreen.

The fun comes in when you ride Epona without the sword.  Apparently, you can use some items will riding.  The deku nuts have caused the most intresting effects.  As you ride, toss a deku nut and you will fall "through" the horse to the ground.  Epona will keep running in the same direction you were headed.  Once you start moving, you control both Link and Epona.

There are many other tricks to do with swordless Link and Epona which involve both deku nuts and the hookshot/longshot.  Experiement and find some on your own.  I have discovered 2 different first-person perspectives.

Unlimited gold skulltulas

Note that you must know the Song of Storms to do this trick.

As a kid, go to the place you met Tolon (the guy who slept by hyrule castle while delivering milk).  Go down by the tree and play the Song of Storms.

Go down the hole that appears and destroy a wall with a bomb.  Once you find the one with the gold skulltula, hit it 2 times with the boomarang and a token should appear where the gold skulltula was.

Z-target it and throw the boomarang at it again but this time when its half way to you do a backflip into the portal you used to enter the hole.  If you mess up, reset the game and try again.

In extremely rare cases, most noteably with old consoles, performing some tricks can shorten the system's longevity.
