Two Ways to get the Zodiac Spear

There are two ways to get the Zodiac Spear, which is the most powerful weapon in the game.

The first way, is to not open four chests throughout the game, and if you don't open those, then when you get to the Necrohol of Nabudis, you will be able to get the Zodiac Spear 100% of the time. The four chests are:

The Chest outside of Dalan's house in Lowtown underneath Rabanastre.

When Vaan sneaks into the palace, avoid all chests in the entire palace.

After that little stunt, you will be captured. In the area of the prison where you get your weapons back there will be a bunch of chests; don't open any of them.

And the last one is on the Phon Coast. Don't open any chest on the Phon coast, especially the ones on the little island.

If you don't open any of these chests, once you come to the Necrohol of Nabudis, search this massive dungeon (you should be at a high level) for a room with 16 chests. In one of these chests will be the Zodiac Spear. DON'T WEAR THE DIAMOND ARMLET OR YOU WILL NOT GET THE SPEAR!

Now, if you have already opened one or more of the chests, you will not be able to get the spear from Nabudis. But there is another way to get it.

In the Henne mines, there is a chest in the second phase of the mines. It is in a little cove in the wall, its easy to spot because thats all thats there. You have a 1/1000 chance of getting the spear when you open it. You could get it the first time, or you could get it the 999th time, or it could be longer. It will take you about 10 hours to a full day to get the spear, but it is possible.

Save your game before you open the chest. Go open the chest WITH your Diamond Armlet (or else you will not get it) and see what you get. If you do not get it, reset your game and try again. DO NOT SAVE OVER THE FILE IF YOU DON'T GET THE SPEAR because the chest will be gone forever once you open it. This is why you must reset your game.

Follow these instructions to the letter and you will get the spear.
