@JoeTheDestroyer Some of my greatest addictions in games have resulted from playing games that I know aren't all that great. I'm currently addicted to ClickerHeroes, a browser-based game that's really just about clicking. For a month now!
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 30, 2014
Have you heard of the new social media network, Tsu? It's a lot like Facebook, but revenue goes to people who post content. Here's a link to my profile that will also let you join: https://www.tsu.co/jasonventer I plan to promote my reviews there. :-D
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 26, 2014
@espiga Thanks for the offer! If I write a guide for DQ3, it will be from scratch, and I'll just grab screenshots as I go, probably. The DQ2 one I originally wrote a few years back, before I was worried about screens, which is why I have to grab them now.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 26, 2014
There are games I always wanted to produce high-quality guides for, and now I have the coding in place to make that a snap. Some of the guides are already written. I just have to insert screenshots and push them live. Things are coming together!
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 26, 2014
I used to think "Oh, someday I want to do this one thing on the site," but I couldn't always figure out how. Now, the site has all the framework in place to let me do those things. The only problem is finding the time, as I can't pay myself to do it.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 26, 2014
@espiga Dragon Warrior II is still one of my favorite RPGs, so it's not a task I'm dreading. I've actually wanted to do something like this for years. Lately, I'm tending to my wish list of projects for the site, with guides especially.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 26, 2014
@espiga I need to go through and grab screens to paste into my detailed guide I've written for that one, which is otherwise ready to go live on the site. I knew there was a reason I was waiting. ;-)
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 21, 2014
@joseph_valencia @overdrive I finally bought some rechargeable ones, but I haven't yet used them, because the Ultimate Lithium ones I used from Energizer seem to last dozens of hours in Wii Remotes.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 19, 2014
@yamishuryou @espiga @zippdementia @overdrive I tend to forgive and even prefer "bog standard" in Dragon Quest battles, because DQ basically MADE that standard. It doesn't feel lazy. It feels RIGHT. And I really wish Nintendo would step up and localize X.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 17, 2014
Atlus just announced that Shin Megami Tensei IV will finally be available in Europe on October 30 of this year, as a digital download priced at €19.99/£17.99. That's good news for European RPG fans who didn't import!
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 16, 2014
Nintendo today announced that Demon's Crest and Gargoyle’s Quest II: The Demon Darkness are coming to Wii U's Virtual Console (and to the 3DS, in the case of the latter) on October 30. Woo!
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 15, 2014
@Suskie You're making it sound like a game I should avoid at all costs, since I don't like scary games much at all and a lack of polish can really annoy me.
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 14, 2014
I just got done updating our site's policies and ethics statements to more directly address the topics gamers are discussing here in 2014: http://www.honestgamers.com/ethicsmore.html
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 14, 2014
@Suskie @overdrive I think I have cards, but I have no idea what their market value might be or why people even want them. Kids these days!
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 04, 2014
@EmP No, I still have them. There's just no way to dependably automate, so I have to post manually to Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. Jeremy was doing that as an intern, but he just ended his internship. I gotta get back in the habit myself. :-(
Jason Venter @honestgamerOct 04, 2014
@Ben Recent Mario Kart in particular often comes down to rubber banding AI, and the luck of the draw (with items). Older MK had better single player, when skill was a lot more relevant. Multi-player is still great, though, and probably Time Trial for SP.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 27, 2014
@Genj @Ben Yeah, the size of the Wii U's internal memory is a great argument in favor of physical copies. I save the space on my internal memory for Virtual Console stuff, game saves, and downloads I can't buy on a physical disc.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 27, 2014
@zippdementia @Ben I will go fully digital only when I have no other choice. Physical media is still attractive with the Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, so we're at least a console generation away from that all-digital day, I think.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 23, 2014
I just got back this afternoon from a 2 1/2 day vacation, my first real vacation in 15 years. Now it's time to go to work in a little bit. Of course. Oh, and my Internet is petulantly going in and out of service. I guess it must have missed me?
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 19, 2014
@Germ That's a great story. Thanks for sharing it! When I have kids, maybe they'll push around blocks like Link in The Legend of Zelda. Or draw fan art of the games all the time, like I did as a child. There are many ways to love games.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 15, 2014
@Ben This sounds like the sort of game I play (very rarely) where I don't realize how long it has been since I last blinked until I feel a tear rolling down my cheek. I like my gaming a bit more relaxing...
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 15, 2014
@joseph_valencia It's a difficult time to be the creator responsible for something too many people love. That can take on a life of its own. I can sympathize with Notch, though obviously I'm not likely to shed a tear on his behalf.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 14, 2014
@joseph_valencia @Suskie Yup, he got my last code. So if you also sent one to @TomatoMan, it looks like we're all sorted. Thanks!
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 14, 2014
@TomatoMan @Suskie @espiga Well, maybe @spaceworlder still has a spare key and will hook you up. Mine are all gone now.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 14, 2014
@TomatoMan @Suskie @espiga Brandon, didn't you hit Platinum status this year, by the end of last month? You should have an email with four keys, if so.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 13, 2014
@espiga Check your HG Mail.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 12, 2014
If any frequent contributor here is dying to play the Smash Bros. (3DS) demo a week ahead of general availability, let me know. I may be able to hook you up with a code I got from Club Nintendo.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 05, 2014
@wolfqueen001 Thanks! I used to ignore mobile devices, but too many people use phones and tablets to browse now, so I had to get with the times. Now even I sometimes check the site on my phone, though mostly I stick to my PC.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 02, 2014
@jerec Actually, I think the number has not increased because people delete stuff sometimes and activity hasn't been as brisk as it once was. We definitely haven't topped 10K, and may have dropped below 9K. The number has fluctuated near 9K for months.
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 02, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer It's good to have you back and feeling refreshed after your academic trials. Don't forget that there are plenty of games on the Trello board that might appeal to you, if you're looking for something new to play and review!
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 01, 2014
Looking for a good read? I know people confessed to enjoying the box that displays random old reviews when it existed on the site in the past, so I brought the feature back to the front page. Want to see it stay? Hate it with a fiery passion? Let me know!
Jason Venter @honestgamerSep 01, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer You're going to give me nightmares, Joe!
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 31, 2014
I am playing Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright on 3DS, and I hope that I will finish it and review it sometime soon. I only just started playing today, though.
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 31, 2014
@joseph_valencia @EmP @overdrive I'm perfectly happy ignoring as much of this kerfuffle as possible and focusing on games, and I expect most or all of the others in this community feel largely the same way. HonestGamers is about the games, not the drama!
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 30, 2014
@pickhut @joseph_valencia I figure we'll see maybe 10 or 20 "must have" titles, most of them from Nintendo and half of them ports, and then in 2 years or so Nintendo will reveal its new generation of hardware. It's a stopgap that I will still likely buy.
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 20, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer @espiga @jerec Yeah, I think the magic of video is fading for some people, and we'll see more people ready to read well-written stuff. The questions: 1) when? 2) can we last that long? 3) can we take advantage of it to grow? I hope so!
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 19, 2014
@espiga @JoeTheDestroyer @jerec I don't generally enjoy video content at all (either producing or, often, watching amateur productions), and I know there are others like me. I hope HG can appeal to a much greater % of that specific group over time.
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 12, 2014
Surely @EmP will be delighted to hear that Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima is workign on a new Silent Hill game, alongside director Guillermo Del Toro: http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/12/5996537/silent-hill-ps4-hideo-kojima-guillermo-del-toro
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 12, 2014
@Germ I hadn't heard that. An Gamescom announcement? I'm not happy, but it will probably be a timed exclusive. I like to get new games in a series on the same platform, and I bought Tomb Raider on PS4. *sigh*
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 12, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Somehow, in my feeble brain, I always get that mixed up with Aero the Acrobat. I've played neither title, though Aero was on Virtual Console, I believe. I don't think Zero was...
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 09, 2014
I picked up "Cuban Fury" on a whim, because it was only $12.99 on blu-ray (on special sale) despite just coming out, and because it has Nick Frost and (I found later) Chris O'Dowd. Not a hilarious movie, really, but still an enjoyable one, I thought.
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 09, 2014
@pickhut It felt short AND it dragged a little? That's quite the accomplishment on Michael Bay's part... I haven't seen many of his movies, to my knowledge. I know he has a bad reputation, relative to his substantial success.
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 08, 2014
I am working a part time job again, and this week was training. It's the same job I had before, but I've been away long enough that they have to assume I've forgotten everything. This could cut into my time to play video games!
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 03, 2014
@jerec This one isn't good enough for you? http://www.honestgamers.com/images/will_review_games_for_food.jpg
Jason Venter @honestgamerAug 01, 2014
NIS America just bumped up the release date for Fairy Fencer F in North America and Europe by one week. The game's listing in the database has been corrected, of course. Nocturnal Doctrine is moving, too. I'll update those profiles shortly...
Jason Venter @honestgamerJul 29, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Even in my teen years, I felt it had chunks that were iffy (my friend had it), but it was still a lot of fun and I may have to revisit that one myself. I (somewhat) recently bought the cartridge in an eBay auction, for just that purpose.
Jason Venter @honestgamerJul 22, 2014
Game profile pages have now been updated to display three images, whenever three or more images are available in the database, instead of four. The image previews are now slightly larger, as well.
Jason Venter @honestgamerJul 22, 2014
I managed to secure multiple keys for the PC beta of The Crew, and I am downloading it myself right now. If anyone else is dying to play it and has a decent PC, lemme know. Details/requirements: http://thecrew-game.ubi.com/portal/en-us/beta/index.aspx
Jason Venter @honestgamerJul 20, 2014
Updated the search results page so that it shows any relevant results in the shiny new format. Hopefully, that will make the page more useful and maybe also help people find games they didn't even know existed.
Jason Venter @honestgamerJul 20, 2014
I spent basically the whole day coding, around 15 hours or so, but the end result is one I'm happy with. Browsing game listings should be a bit more fun now, with some shiny new tools and a more vibrant interface.
