Sorry about the delay, people who have posted stuff to The Production Room and are awaiting a copyedit. I had stuff I had to do, but now that's done so I'll see if I can't get a couple looked over tonight. Thanks for your patience!
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 20, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Looks like for now, Konami is content to recycle, though I'm not necessarily opposed to PSN releases of more of its old titles: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/17/silent-hill-origins-and-shattered-memories-coming-to-psn-for-vita

@Ben Why does Nintendo keep having third parties develop its new Yoshi platformers? People apparently weren't fond of Yoshi's Island DS, either, which was developed by Artoon. Develop another one internally, Nintendo!
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 18, 2014
@Ben If they were truly terrible, they wouldn't be on the site, but I do understand the temptation to revise and improve them. At the same time, sometimes I like to maintain a record of sorts, showing how far I've come...
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 17, 2014
@Germ It's important to recognize when you have an emotional attachment to a game (for good or perhaps even for bad) that will prevent you from covering it in a way that is likely to prove useful to anyone else, I think.
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 14, 2014
Did you like Ys. III? I sort of did. Here's a writeup on Kotaku about an upcoming indie PC game that apparently "channels" that classic title: http://kotaku.com/indie-rpg-channels-old-school-ys-1563094963
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 13, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer I think I have a GOG account with the PC version of Ultima: Quest of the Avatar on it. I seem to remember that being the case...
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 12, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer The only two Mega Man games I've never cleared are 7 and 10. I haven't even played 10, but I do own it on two platforms and will get to it soon. 7, I played only briefly as part of the anthology. I need to get back to it!
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 11, 2014
@Germ Can't say that I have any experience myself, no. The last Ninja Gaiden I actually played was the first Xbox one. Before that, I stuck to the NES stuff like every good little retro gamer. ;-)
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 11, 2014
@Germ I don't think there's a really good option on Sony platforms, but maybe your best bet is the remake of the first Xbox one, available for PS3?
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 10, 2014
@Germ @Ben Personal anecdotes can be a useful tool in such reviews, if they don't become a review of the author's childhood or a drunken weekend in college or whatever. They establish a relevant starting point.
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 10, 2014
@Ben I reviewed Super Mario Bros. 3 ages ago, and it's still one of my very favorite games: http://www.honestgamers.com/317/nes/super-mario-bros-3/review.html The original Zelda, too. All older reviews...
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 08, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Mediocre is what Game Boy does best, don't you know?
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 07, 2014
@Germ @JoeTheDestroyer I kept the first Katamari and sold the sequel. I'm down to three Katamari games now, after various collection purges when finances got tough and forced difficult decisions...
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 07, 2014
@Germ There are lots of opportunities for people to award games they love higher scores here, but most of them don't bother. Also, 7 or 8 is not a bad rating for a game, on a full 1-10 scale!
Jason Venter @honestgamerApr 02, 2014
By the way, Mercenary Kings is a free download right now for PS4 owners who have a PlayStation Plus account. I'll likely be reviewing it elsewhere, but know this: a lot of you will probably like it quite a bit.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 28, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Just saw this article/video linked on Twitter. I haven't watched it, but maybe it'll prove helpful. http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2014/03/28/learn-how-to-actually-play-cloudbuilt-with-this-helpful-tutorial/79875/
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 28, 2014
In my personal opinion, this is one of the best 7-day periods in terms of content that the site has seen since its inception. Make sure you don't miss reading some of those excellent reviews, people, and thanks for contributing them!
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 26, 2014
@Germ No word yet on how they'll release it. Idea Factory is apparently publishing this time, and playing coy with that particular detail, so I suspect digital-only... in which case I'll likely pass.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 25, 2014
@espiga It's good to see that game is doing well enough to justify localization of a sequel!
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 25, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer @overdrive @zippdementia After spending 80 hours with The Witch and the Hundred Knight, I look forward to clearing and reviewing a bunch of somewhat shorter games on Wii. ;-)
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 25, 2014
@honestgamer Of course, I try to space notices out, and then today we posted two exciting new staff/freelance games, so that's the reason for the continued delay. Keep those contributions coming, and thanks!
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 25, 2014
I missed featuring some recent reader reviews from some of you, over the weekend. I'll try to get those promoted on social media soon, now that The Witch and the Hundred Knight is done sucking up all of my spare time. Freaking game...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 24, 2014
And if you count my review for The Witch and the Hundred Knight, which I do, there are now exactly 700 of my reviews on this site. Now to try for 800, right?
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 23, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer How do you find these games?
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 22, 2014
@Ben Sorry about that. It's added now.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 22, 2014
@pickhut Thanks for the prompt. I've added the listing for him.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 19, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer @Germ I reviewed that one too, Joe. For PS3. Another exception to the rule stating licensed fare must always be awful...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 19, 2014
@Germ I do seem to have enjoyed it more than any other critics, but I really did enjoy it. I hadn't actually seen the movie at the time, though I've since picked up the blu-ray. It was just a truly fun, pretty platformer, and those are all too rare now.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 18, 2014
Found a minor glitch that somehow persisted and prevented feedback threads from being posted in certain unusual situations, but it should be fixed now. Hopefully, fixing it didn't create a new issue. Let me know if you have new trouble posting threads!
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 17, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer @zippdementia @Suskie They changed up the director for Dark Souls II, I think I recall reading, so that could explain the creative disparity.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 17, 2014
This feels like a Kickstarter project (due to the X-COM ties) that might interest EmP and people like him: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206403106/chaos-reborn-from-the-creator-of-the-original-x-co
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 16, 2014
@Suskie Long is okay if it's well written, and I'm confident it will be.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 16, 2014
@Suskie Interesting. Might you care to freelance review it here?
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 16, 2014
I've been playing The Witch and the Hundred Knight throughout the weekend. I'm going slow, probably slower than is intended, because I'm taking my time to clear most maps 100% and such. I'm obsessive that way sometimes...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 16, 2014
@EmP @JoeTheDestroyer Same here! Actually, it looks decent enough... so I I probably will make that move, sooner or later.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 15, 2014
I owe around $5,000 more in taxes than I was expecting to owe (freelancers are taxed at way too high a rate), so I'm going to be desperately seeking freelance work and my output here will likely slow as a result. Sad days.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 14, 2014
@Germ @JoeTheDestroyer You guys both know that Amazon bought Double Helix Games, right? Developers of the new Strider and Killer Instinct reboots? Clearly, the company is planning SOMETHING.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 10, 2014
@jerec Heh. I already own lots and lots of Wii stuff, and I hope soon to own much more. So I could review nothing more than stuff I own and stay busy for years. It's really just a question of motivation!
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 10, 2014
Do you think I can finally reach a total of 700 or more games reviewed on the site by the time this year draws to a close, or am I aiming a little too high?
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 10, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Heh. I'm the sort who would be going to a 24-hour department store right now, were I in your shoes. I suck at depriving myself the things I want once I can finally afford them...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 09, 2014
I'm working my way through CoD:G, finally. Tried to capture video of the first hour but my capture device wasn't cooperative. I caught the second hour instead, and I'll probably condense that into a 10-minute video if I can put it together well enough...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 08, 2014
@wolfqueen001 @pickhut Copyright complaints, which YouTube won't fight even when it should. Though nowadays, fights are usually centered more on monetization.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 08, 2014
@pickhut Cool, I see you added some video for your latest review. Looks good... as long as YouTube doesn't pull it! If you want your reviews to perform better on HG, you can also link to them from your video descriptions. That's what I do! :-D
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 07, 2014
@pickhut I hope I can do that with a lot of videos, particularly for Wii games (record footage with commentary, condense an hour or so of play down to 10 minutes, and include it as I post reviews). Written content is important, but video gets more hits...
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 07, 2014
I'm looking to be active on YouTube again, as a means of cross-promotion for the site and to make my reviews more engaging. I am using the Pirate's PlundArrr review as an early test... http://www.honestgamers.com/12212/wii/pirates-plundarrr/review.html
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 05, 2014
@Germ Indeed there are! It can sometimes be quite fascinating to take a look through the game listings and see what sorts of oddities have flown under the radar, both here and abroad.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 04, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer Yeah, that much seemed EXTREMELY likely to me when I read some of the comments on that scene, before the game was released. Dracula is a villain and this sounded even MORE true to the original mythology than Twilight. Yes, even MORE true.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 04, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer It's like a "bad movie" viewing evening, at that point, where suddenly everything is worthy of derision, even if it really isn't. I would hope that's not happening here, but it's not hard to imagine it playing out that way for some.
Jason Venter @honestgamerMar 04, 2014
@JoeTheDestroyer There's also a scene in the game where Dracula bites a woman's neck that people are interpreting as rape/misogyny, so that makes it VERY difficult for some critics to find anything positive about a game, once that accusation is made.
