Vintage ToTD site chop
October 06, 2009

Myself, Zigfried and NickEvil used to run Taglines of the Day topics at gamefaqs back in the early noughties (2001-2002?). When this saga was well and truly over, I put a downloadable archive up on geocities containing all the topics:

http://www.geocities.com/bloomer_au/totd/

Geocities closes on Oct 28. I have the site backed up and will re-up it somewhere at some point, but it's low priority for me now with my health. So if you wanna have a look at it or download files, go for it now. I hope I didn't write anything too embarrassing in there, it was maybe 8 years ago.

Most recent blog posts from Wade Clarke...

Those were such cool topics, and they inspired me (and probably a lot of other reviewers) to put a lot more thought into our taglines.

Edit: Wow, I was productive back then. I made quite a few appearances, and won a fair few X-Factor awards.

Is there something especially wrong with your health? The TotD is neat, but it basically ended just as I became active on the GameFAQs forums so it's not as big to me as it is others. Your health, though... that's a biggie.

Yeah... your health okay, man? Can't leave us hanging like that!

I thought everyone would know about it now, from mentions in this blog, and my posts in other's topics, but it seems I have failed to communicate anything to anyone :)

I developed killer RSI in my arms and hands a few months ago, from the overload of computer tasks, programming, and practising music. I had to stop doing basically everything to just heal back to normal. Your limbs turn to lead, you're in pain 24/7, you lose your ability to grasp objects. I still can't sleep on my side. I've only recently graduated to typing something like this, maybe once a day.

This state will continue as I train back to normalcy. I need to change things, as clearly my body can't take what I was doing. What wrecked my sanity during this time was having no creative outlet. Couldn't write, draw, make music, anything. I still hate not being able to write more than a few paragraphs. I feel like my thoughts are just going into an abyss. I can at least do a tiny bit of music per day now, and my adventure game, which was 90% finished before this happened, will get done eventually. This is all obviously also why I've done nothing on HG for awhile. But everything's been railroaded and recovery is slow.

Thanks for the update, and I hope that your recovery from this point onward happens more speedily than it did leading up to this point. I actually know someone at work who was starting to feel pain but worked through the holiday season (last Christmas) before finally going to a doctor and she wasn't able to really use her arms or hands for months because of it. When you start feeling unreasonable pain, I guess the lesson is... you rest immediately rather than pressing through it. Not sure that's the same deal as what's going on here for you, but it still seems as good a place as any for a timely reminder. I know I'd go crazy if I had to go months with no creative outlet. It's a possibility I take seriously!

Yeah you are spot on HG. When you feel the twinges, you should stop dead, rest, and review your habits and techniques. I thought I had learned this by now, but the context change of programming a game and being swept up in it made me forget how much I was typing. Ditto, practising music like a perfectionist in a rather unkind-to-myself way. I just wasn't listening to my body this time.

That's rough, man. I don't know what I'd do. Everything in my life involves the livelihood of my fingers. I rock climb, I write all the fucking time (school, reviews, scripts, editing scripts, writing for fun), play piano, and even my part-time subway job requires the ol' fingers to be working all the time. Not to mention basic acts like operating doors and sleeping comfortably.

And masturbation. That's important, too.
