I really did enjoy Starcraft 2, though I'll be honest and say that it was much more cliché than the original game. Maybe it's just that I work with script writers all the time but personally I found Raynor's speech to be very "blah."
Glad you had fun, though. I'd recommend the original but I don't think you'd like it. It doesn't have the graphical appeal of the new one, nor the intelligence of mission design. Brood Wars is closer, but still isn't... well, as fun!
I was intrigued by the final twist in the story, especially for what it may mean for Heart of the Swarm and I very much enjoyed the retelling of Kerrigan's fall.
I just got into the multiplayer aspect. Just on practice mode right now, but I've yet to lose a match. I'm kind've making a serious job of this... I study every battle, observing what the enemy has done wrong and what I could tighten up.
Some things I've learned.... check my blog.

i particularly liked the line 'because somethings are just worth fighting for' from Raynor's speech.....
have fun with the multiplayer.....and ill be sure to check out the tips on your blog.....did read the headings......i think its pretty much the same with the single player campaign as well....
