It really depends. Is it only this year that the PC is getting the $1000 treatment? Do you make good use out of the investment? If you're simply buying parts for your PC because it's the shiny new thing to have (as opposed to you buying the highest-end equipment because you need an upgrade that will last for a significant period), then you're probably spending too much. However, if spending $1000 in one year (and only doing such with a several year timespan between purchases), then you're definitely not spending too much.

Of course, another thing to consider is to balance it against your own level of income and figure out just how much that $80ish a month takes out of your monthly expenses. If you're spending 5% of your monthly income just on your computer, that could be a significant amount that could be better budgeted toward something else.

In the end, my response didn't really tell you much except "Maybe. Maybe not." But it's late, I'm tired, and I'm going to go pass out now.

hahahahaaa.......good one......i upgrade my PC for my gaming needs.....ive seen ppl with HDDs of 1 Terabyte while i got a 500 GB: a 160 GB HDD and a 320 GB HDD one coz i dont think i need that much space yet.....i was on a 160 GB HDD for like 10 months before i decided to get the 320 GB HDD and that too coz i wanted to shift to windows 7 (64 bit version requires 20 GB) and games were become more space demanding.....i wanted to buy a motherboard that supports up to 8 GB of RAM but decided not to coz i really dont need that kind of speed.....so i think i spend wisely.....

I spent about $2000 on my computer including the OS. Since then I've upgraded the graphics card, hard drive (320 gig to 1 tb) and might add 2 gigs of RAM.

Probably new for a new machine next year sometime.
