October 15, 2010

Total Objects Scanned: 1221575

No infection was found during the scan.....

im a bit surprised and a bit skeptical of the results.......

I use that same program and it tells me I don't have any issues all the time. However, I am fairly confident that it works because last year it had picked up a few infections (which were deleted by the program). And for a period of several months, it would pick up and delete dozens of "warnings" a day, which I guess were potential files and things that could potentially cause harm but at the moment were innoccuous.

Still, I would prefer to have my Norton Antivirus back... but that costs money, so I'm stuck with this. But, well, I haven't had any serious issues with my computer lately (or ever, even... Even when I did have a few viruses, they were nothing major), so I'm guessing I'm fine. I'm sure you're fine, too. Unless you have something going on in your system that makes you think you do have some malevolent processes going on.

ON THE OTHER HAND: if you're implying that the scanner says your computer is nothing but viruses and malware, then... that's really weird. That's what the title of this post implies, anyway, but the context of the post suggests the opposite.

Why is it so odd that your computer would have no malware?

coz of all the 'dangerous' ads ive seen of antivirus and the 'threats' that blogs and websites speak of.....trojans, worms and this and that but i use my PC mostly for gaming and on the internet i visit only a limited number of sites so it isnt that surprising......

but what surprised me the most was the fact that i had been using microsoft security essentials before avg and i didnt realize until now that the microsoft program also works quite well, which is saying a lot for a microsoft product......

AVG is good if you keep it updated. If you want to scan for spyware then try Spybot.

All those ads and things you talk about are just there to scare you. Unless you do something stupid or go unintentionally go somewhere shady, you likely won't have any issues.

Though, you might occasionally pick up random things just from random browsing (I have), but these are rare and usually harmless.

this is a relief then :)

It's very possible, but AVG is crap. If you wanna go free use MSE or Avast. Or even Avira, although that keeps on asking you to register it and it gets annoying.

I've used AVG right up until I got Windows 7 on this laptop and Microsoft Security Essentials along with it. AVG because it was free, and MSE for the same reason. Don't know if it's normally, but we've got a partnership through the company that makes it so.

Yeah.. the "ohnoes, click here to resolve all your windows problems" are links to malware 100% of the time. ..and is the reason why it spreads so easily.

Anyway. Here's something you can do to avoid most of the grief, including the ads that actually share your information and send it to servers using your upspeed..

http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
or "how to make the internet not suck (as much)".

Not very difficult to set up, and removes 90% of the annoying, flashing ads with sloe and goatsex. And won't interrupt your browsing experience in any other way. Just be aware of that it's not without risk to insert anything into your hosts-file. But I can vouch for what's in the link.

AVG is free and I also think there's a version that's not free. MSE is 100% free as long as your copy of Windows is legit.

Even if it's not as clean and lightweight as it used to be, "ad-aware" by lavasoft is a good program too. Very few false alarms, that kind of thing. :)

the thing i hate most about AVG is that it falsely detects game files as viruses and blocks them unnecessarily.......
