i just finished Mafia II and its got a gr8 intense story....something you would expect from a mafia game.....the drugs, the violence, the betrayals and everything in between and then i got to the ending and i was like WTF was that?????

u call that the ending?????the cutscenes between missions were longer than the ending were longer and made more sense.....

Soul Reaver. The game just ends on a stupid, anti-climatic cliffhanger, and gamers were forced to wait for the second half... which eventually ended up on another console. I never played it.

but on the whole the story of Soul Reaver was quite good i think......

but the 1st game eneded in a cliffhanger and u know a sequel was coming but Mafia II ends in i dont know whether to call it a cliffhanger or not.....i dont know what the ending was.....

FFX? Are you kidding me! That game had an amazing ending! For once everyone DIDNT end up happily ever after! Thank the gods for an ending with some meaning!

MGS4 on the other hand is the most disappointing ending of all time, in my opinion, especially as it tied up (failure) a decade of gaming history.

well...i thought FFX didnt have a very strong ending and as far as MGS4 goes....cant really comment on that coz havent played the game.....

..I thought Soul Reaver had a pretty good ending. Wrapped the close story-arc to an end, without explaining the entire mystery. But did enough to make you wonder exactly how evil Kain was, and that there was something else going on.

Same with MGS4, imo - could see the ending turn up a mile away, but it felt like a real ending to the chapter. The last fight as well, including the microwave scene - never seen an ending to a game like that. :D

*Soul Reaver Spoilers*

Kain talks for 3 minutes, then get to slash him three times and it's done. He then literally screams "To be continued!", runs away, you chase, treated to some text on a screen, get an actual "To Be Continued...", then see a casual credits screen. I considered that an epic letdown back when I first played it in its release month :/. And I'm surprised you think the story wraps up the game nicely, considering the development team even admitted they had to split up the game due to a falling out with Silicon Knights that forced delays.

Same here.. both 1&2 ..and Defiance :) ...I don't think I reacted to the ending that much, because I thought the chapter ended, like I said. After you had gone through the entire thing, you would know that Raziel has been a puppet all along, and that everything you've done has been expected by Mobius and Kain.

But then there's that duality in the game, seeing Kain before he understands his fate, and afterwards. So when you enter the time-chamber, you have one of those moments for Raziel as well - that Kain can't control him, and that you are suddenly free in the time-stream just as he is.

So that's why I liked the ending - Raziel ends up freeing himself, and Kain(traveling back in time) turns up to assist him. So they really will have a second attempt at fate, knowing what it has in store for them. Kain truly believing they will walk the earth as gods. But Raziel perhaps less convinced of how divine it was from the beginning..

(..ah.. real story-telling in games. How I miss that. Amy Hennig wrote so well for these games..)

..oh, and if you defeat Kain properly - by escaping to the ethereal realm (where Kain cannot follow you), the entire thing makes more sense as well, no..? Kain really takes a risk encountering Raziel one on one (he knows that after he tries to strike him down the first time). But he succeeds, and makes Raziel able to go through the story, seeing it from a different point of view.

I don't even know half the stuff you're talking about. Are you throwing in the plot for the other two games in order to make the first sound better?

The ending to "Terranigma" is a real punch in the gut.

I'm more in Pickhut's boat when it comes to Soul Reaver. Felt anticlimactic to me. I'm cool with the concept of a game series, but I'd prefer feeling some sort of reward for beating a game in a series. At least more than a "welp! see ya next time around, kids!"

Hmm... I'd say SMB2, Halo 3 (bad ending), most Dead Rising endings, Saints Row 1... and that's all for now.

Atlantis no Nazo. After the tremendous effort involved to win, the ending is Karnovian in its epic WTF-ness.

The screen blinked when I made it to 1000000 in Laser Blast on a 2600 emulator.

Disappointing for 4 hours of rote repetitive action.

..still don't really see the problem with the SR ending, though :D ..I mean, the way the story is integrated into the gameplay is actually pretty good. For example the lighthouse level... or, well, the ending - where you can go between the realms to defeat Kain. Or, you go somewhere he can't. That's.. kind of the point - figuratively speaking, that's what makes Kain think you can change your destiny, in a way that he can't.

The ending to Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords was horrible, though. That's.. really the result of bad contracts and pressure to release the game. ..oops! Over!

Or Monkey Island 2. The Carnival? Fun.. but..

Full Throttle had a good ending.. but it made me go wtf. Jet carrier speeding towards a gorge. Then bunnies down the sunset after the bike. Hm.

Wait, what?
fleinn fleinn - September 14, 2010 (08:00 AM)
..well, no. But it makes the point that you really can win that fight, unlike the first time you confront Kain. Because Raziel can go somewhere Kain can't.

Soul Reaver FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WilltheGreat WilltheGreat - September 14, 2010 (02:17 PM)
That game - nay, that series is great for so many reasons. I've always felt like Simon Templeman's performances did the larger part of carrying the story. Kain has some great dialogue.

Also I was never sure if I liked the classic version of that last fight, or SR2's retelling of it.

fleinn fleinn - September 14, 2010 (11:54 PM)
Yeah. In Blood Omen as well. He says something about coming back from the depths of hell to avenge his death - and you go: of course, from the depths of hell. Obviously. Don't doubt it for a second. :D

Always liked Raziel the best for some reason, though.
blood-omen blood-omen - September 15, 2010 (09:21 AM)
yeah Raziel is an awesome hero, and the dialogs of the game were sooooo eloquent????yeah i guess thats the word......i wish they would make a new Soul Reaver game
WilltheGreat WilltheGreat - September 15, 2010 (01:35 PM)
I hope they don't. Raziel's story arc is done, bringing him back from inside the Reaver would only serve to cheapen his character, and remaking the series would potentially be crap as (I belive) Squenix currently holds the license.
EmP EmP - September 15, 2010 (01:39 PM)
I prefered the first game -- the one as a sulky Kane.
fleinn fleinn - September 15, 2010 (02:41 PM)
When examining Nupraptor's severed head: "Alas for Poor Nupraptor, I knew him well... well, not really.."

".. Squenix currently holds the license."
Uh, oh. Hylden fps with time-warps, cyber-angels and super-powers coming right up..
WilltheGreat WilltheGreat - September 15, 2010 (03:56 PM)
Also, expect a reimagining of Raziel that looks about ten years younger and like he was attacked by a laundry basket.

Clive Barker's Jericho probably has one of the worst endings in history of endings, only rivaled by the ending of Broken Sword IV. Good games, both, but the endings were just plain awful.
zippdementia zippdementia - September 16, 2010 (01:27 PM)
Not surprisingly, DE. It would only be keeping in line with the ending of Undying.
