Time can be cruel. The world; its future and the perception of those in it can change accordingly for better or worse, given time.
does it read awkwardly or is there a better way to restructure this sentence?

Title: how i spent my halloween
Posted: November 01, 2009 (01:03 AM)
in a dark house so all the halloweenies would stay away while playing an hour or so of Demon's Souls online and writing review of the game. the 'allow eve's party was pretty awesome. the world tendency turned dark just like they said it would. the most i got out of it was being able to go to the execution grounds for the first time in Boletaria castle and getting my ass handed by Executioner Miralda. she jumped me from the corner as i entered the room. good times.

Title: Writing a Demon's Souls review
Posted: October 31, 2009 (12:50 PM)
just writing as i go...thinking about actually putting my first review on here. anyway this is what i wrote. will probably keep re-editing this post every minute or so..
------------------- What would happen if Godzilla and the Alien from Ridley Scott's movie had gone to hell to merge together, then came back as a hideous demon with a lean eight-pack(yes I said eight since it's not human..) and a mean punch that Captain Falcon would be jealous of? Why you would get the towering monstrosity known as the Dragon God! It's roars are deafening even from far away. Your heart is beating fast. It's rage is seething uncontrollably that it never stops moving. Yet all you can do is wonder how you can even begin to approach this monster, but you do anyway and you'll pay dearly for it...with your life! Before you can even manage to raise your blade...Ka-pow! You skid about a hundred feet or more face down on the floor. You lie there lifelessly in a crumpled heap. The ghastly scene comes to a dim.. (message appears in bold red) "YOU DIED - Your body has been trapped by the Nexus!" (screen fades to black) This is the reward(some reward huh?) you get for completing the opening tutorial of Demon's Souls. It is one of many memorable, maddening moments from From Software's epic tale of death and soul-starving demons! What immediately grabbed me when I played Demon's Souls for the first time was it's unconventional approach to the tutorial. Where other games force you to learn moves before you can move onto the next section. In Demon's Souls the game doesn't need to hold your hand. You have free reign over when and how to learn to play the game at your own pace. In other words, the game encourages you to experiment with the controls. There are glowing red glyphs on the ground that contain hints or instructions but you aren't required to read them. They are only there for clarity. Fortunately, the controls for the most part are intuitive to learn without the help of glyphs and the button placements make sense for an action RPG. Demon's Souls adapts the old-school philosophy of learning that is almost lacking in today's games. The other interesting thing about the Tutorial is that it isn't just there for you to familiarize with the game's controls. It is also designed to kill you! No matter what the outcome is, your first death in Demon's Souls will, in fact, take place right here in the Tutorial! Regular enemies here in this elaborate ruse won't pose a threat to you though. They are only fighting at half-strength. You'll fight Dreglings, Swordsmen, Blue-eyed Knights and Archers along the way. You could run away from them because the tutorial doesn't care or you could let them drain your life completely and you'll still live because they are only fodder for the real battle that's ahead. Up the stairs and into the chamber you will meet Vanguard, the actual boss of the tutorial. Vanguard is a huge ogre with a huge axe about twice the size of you and it likes to swing at things. If you are unlucky one swing will kill you instantly, two if you are lucky. Most players will likely die on their first try because this stubborn beast takes more than several dozen blows before it goes down. Those who persevere will get to meet the aforementioned Dragon God himself along with some spoils that will be helpful to you in your next life!

Title: I finished Demon's Souls...
Posted: October 28, 2009 (09:04 PM)
and it is my favorite PS3 game so far. some of the last parts of the game could've been better but it still felt epic anyway such as the battle against the False King...
he can steal away your LVL's literally by sucking your soul. if you try to distance yourself far away from him, he will glide halfway across the room and slice at you in a matter of seconds. he has one other notable move where he strikes the ground and creates an exploding atomic blast with a radius of unavoidable. with all those incredible powers it's sort of a shame that i figured out, in a moment of desperation, a not so epic way of killing him thus cheapening the experience a little. i guess all is fair in Boletaria and knowing this is only half the battle. next time i fight him again in new game+ i will be sure to make the next battle an epic one. Title: another rpg remake on the psp
Posted: October 23, 2009 (11:35 PM)
this time it's Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star. the demo is on the japanese PSN store. haven't played this game in ages but i sure remember those cutscenes when Alex first meets Luna. seems they've kept it exactly like Silver Star Complete and it looks much sharper on a portable screen. other than redrawn sprites and backgrounds, rearranged town and menu layouts i'm not sure what else is new.

Title: My Wii History
Posted: October 22, 2009 (12:29 AM)
out of curiosity i re-downloaded the Nintendo Channel to see what games i've played the most on the system. here are my top 10 games
1. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 87hrs. 32min. played 48 times 2. Wii Sports - 61hrs. 34min. played 65 times 3. Metroid Prime 3 - 35hrs. 10min. played 28 times 4. Super Mario Galaxy - 30hrs. 48min. played 21 times 5. Trauma Center: New Blood - 26hrs. 54min. played 19 times 6. Super Paper Mario - 25hrs. 26min. played 17 times 7. Zack & Wiki - 24hrs. 24min. played 18 times 8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 23hrs. 53min. played 18 times 9. ExciteTruck - 23hrs. 17min. played 28 times 10. No More Heroes - 19hrs. 3min. played 12 times also it's got the times spent on all those wii channels and virtual console games. i spent 15 hrs. on Wii Shop, 5 hrs. on Mii Channel. Sonic The Hedgehog on the Genesis is my most played Virtual Console game with 11 hrs. it seems almost accurate except for the fact that it didn't collect all the data that is on my system! my save file for Y's Book 1 & 2 is still there but it didn't show up anywhere on the list. it seems like i spent more time on No More Heroes and Super Mario Galaxy so i'm surprised No More Heroes is at the bottom of the list. Zelda and Wii Sports are at the top of the list because i have given them a second playthrough.

Kenji Matsubara, Tecmo Koei Holdings honcho, expects big things of recently announced multi-platform title Hokuto Musou. The game is based on post-apocalyptic martial arts manga Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken).
"Only in Japan, the game should sell a million copies," Matsubara told the Nihon Keisai Newspaper. According to the paper, the game is expected to launch worldwide, given the international familiarity with Fist of the North Star. 【オプーナ】北斗無双はミリオン確実【ミリオン】 [2ch] -Kotaku oh man that would be awesome to have a new and proper Fist of the North Star game released in the US. i hope they can find a voice actor who can do Kenshiro's A-TA-TA-TA justice like the guy who dubbed Ken's voice in the animated movie. Title: Demon's Souls progress
Posted: October 15, 2009 (12:39 AM)
after playing about 10 hours on one file, i decided to create a new file. what happens if i beated Vanguard in the tutorial? that part always bugged me so about a dozen tries later i finally beated that thing..i think it was definitely worth the trip. you get rewarded generously with extra spoils and being greeted(falcon-punched rather!!) by one of the most visually terrifying demons i've ever seen in a video game. also i was able to create my likeness much better. i just don't know where to begin when creating a face so this time i clicked on the random faces button until i found a suitable one then tweaked it. i guess i will abandon my old file now because i'm getting attached to the new one. here are some pics from Onikira's journey to hell!

for demon's souls!
yep. finally picked up my deluxe copy. combat is surprisingly brisk and not as sluggish as i thought it would be. having fun slaying soldiers...but those mid-bosses keep owning me. got killed by The Vanguard in the tutorial. then i got warped to the Nexus. then warped to Boletaria...those dragons look awesome. went in and around the castle. saw those dragons again by the hillside. appraoched them and got toasted. my measly shield couldn't defend me from their fire breaths. all in all i've died 4 times. gonna check out the strategy book that came with it. will play some more tommorow...

Title: Where are all the next gen games?
Posted: October 05, 2009 (12:13 PM)
http://kotaku.com/5369850/where-are-all-the-next-gen-games
So as good as Modern Warfare is, as good as Mario Galaxy is, I don't call them truly "next gen" games. Why? Because they fail my "next gen" test, that's why. Here's the test: If a game can be ported to a console in a previous generation and keep its core gameplay and overall design in place, it's not what I'm calling for the purposes of this piece a "next gen" game. Mario Galaxy was great, but really, it's a GameCube title with some star-shaking stuff thrown in. Modern Warfare? Amazing, but as the upcoming Wii port attests, it used the 360 and PS3 primarily for better graphics and sound. LittleBigPlanet? Another great game, but the PSP version shows the core experience could have been done on a PS2. while Modern Warfare and Little Big Planet could be possible on a PS2 with the core gameplay intact. the experience just wouldn't be the same. Mario Galaxy could be ported to GameCube with the spherical worlds concept and no star-shaking but since the idea came to reality on the Wii and with it's tiny extra graphical muscle Mario Galaxy looks and plays better than Mario Sunshine ever did, i think Galaxy qualifies as a "next-gen" mario game. when i think of "original" next-gen games, i think of new settings, new characters, inventive visual/audio design(not necessarily technically better), inventive gameplay styles. the most important thing is it must be a combination of most or all these aspects but executed properly. there are alot of games i thought could have been good next-gen games but just weren't designed well like Lair, Assassin's Creed etc. hopefully games like Demon's Souls will fare much better. here are my favorite games/potential franchises from the current next-gen consoles: (in no particular order) No More Heroes Wii Sports FallOut 3 Little Big Planet Valkyria Chronicles Zack & Wiki Muramasa: The Demon Blade if i had a 360 the list might be bigger

well i put $10 down for Demon's Souls deluxe edition..however, i'm going to have to give up some games from my collection in exchange. the games i'm giving up are:
Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 Rayman Raving Rabbids Wii Endless Ocean Wii Ratchet & Clank Going Commando PS2 GameStop's got that promotion going until the 4th where if you trade in 3 games with a minimum $2 value you get $10 extra and 4 games for $20 extra. GTAIV is worth $5.75, Rayman Raving Rabbids = $5.50, Endless Ocean = $10, Ratchet= $2..so i'm gonna have $43 credit. it's more or less(maybe a little bit less) than what i'll be getting if i sold them on ebay after fees and everything. i'm a bit sad to see them go even if they weren't great games. i was surprised that Endless Ocean has alot of value on the used market. it goes for $20 on ebay that was only $30 new when it came out. that was one game i wanted to keep. i liked Endless Ocean better than GTAIV. after seeing the latest Demon's Souls trailer it's a small sacrifice to make. holy crap i'm stoked.

Title: my impression of Peace Walker demo
Posted: September 27, 2009 (01:51 AM)
i wasn't all too interested about another Metal Gear outing on the PSP, or any Metal Gear game on any console for that matter. i was done with the series after Metal Gear Solid 4 but now that i had spent a good long hour playing the demo i'm actually quite hyped up for this game.
the demo consists of 3 parts: the first part you'll spend about 7 minutes on the coast learning the controls and moves on your fellow soldiers followed by a very simple get to point A to point B sneaking mission with very few soldiers in the path. here is where you also get to see the majority of cinematic cutscenes in the demo. the second part is another sneaking mission. there are few more segmented areas with more enemy soldiers patrolling about. the last section is a fortified camp the third and final part is an all-out battle against a tank. you can co-op with up to 4 players. the tank battle was definitely the best part of the demo. as long as i don't care too much about the plot and if the game consistently offers a variety of sneaking and balls-out action like the demo offered than i am stoked. the presentation is solid. graphics are the best i've seen yet on the PSP. if it weren't for the pixellation, the texture and lighting look way better than MGS3. the new control scheme i had to get used to especially using the face buttons for the camera control.. overall the game looks and plays like Metal Gear Solid 3.5
