Naughty Dog explored making a new Jak and Daxter, made Last of Us instead
How would you feel about a current generation Jak and Daxter? (No, not that HD collection coming out tomorrow.) Because it almost happened, according to what Evan Wells', Naughty Dog's co-president, said to Game Informer.
"[The Uncharted team] did explore the idea fairly extensively," he said. "Something we talked about early on was, 'Let's go back and apply what we've learned with the Uncharted games to Jak and Daxter.'"
But the team felt they would ultimately end up limiting the direction of the game and not deliver what fans wanted.
"So at that point, the conversations started to move in a new direction," said Wells.
Those conversations led to the team's current project, the post-apocalyptic adventure title The Last of Us, which premiered last December, during Spike's Video Game Awards. But Wells wouldn't completely shut out all hope for a new Jak and Daxter game.
“Naughty Dog’s got a long history and I think it’s got a long future, so to say we’ll never go back is kind of crazy," he said. "I guess there’s a possibility the Uncharted team could move on to Jak and Daxter. It’s still up in the air, but I wouldn’t think that’s going to happen because I think we’d run into all of the same problems with that team that we did with this team.”
So you're telling me there's a chance...?
