GameStop sparks a Last Guardian cancelation scare
If you got a call from GameStop advising you to place pre-order funds elsewhere due to The Last Guardian's cancelation, take a deep breath; it's not true.
Sony confirmed the title definitely still is in development yesterday, after GameStop customers who pre-ordered Team Ico's next game received the disturbing, automated call. A statement from GameStop later corroborated this.
"The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers," said the company in a statement to Joystiq. "Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."
It isn't the first time The Last Guardian's made headlines in the past month for not-too-positive reasons. Sony told Gamasutra about two weeks ago that the rumor of Fumito Ueda, the game's director, parting ways with Team Ico was in fact true, though he is still working on wrapping up The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity.
After hearing the news of Ueda's semi-departure, a cancelation of the project was somewhat believable, but thankfully, our hopes of someday getting our hands on this griffin-cat adventure are still very much alive.
