SSX delayed on account of snow
The next entry in EA Sports' SSX franchise, simply titled SSX, will be tricking onto store shelves a couple weeks later than planned. Originally scheduled for a Valentine's Day release, the game will be released on February 28th in North America and March 2nd in Europe.
Todd Batty, SSX's Creative Director, was the one to announce the delay, saying, "I wanted to let you all know firsthand that we recently decided to take a couple of extra weeks to give our game the final bit of polish we think it deserves. ... There is a reason why Tricky and SSX3 are still among the highest rated games of all time, and it is because even playing them today they still stand the test of time. Our goal from Day 1 was to re-launch this amazing franchise with a new SSX game that could live up to that legacy."
The new SSX brings a lot of new ideas to the franchise, so it's not surprising they need a bit longer to put the finishing touches on the experience. Helicopter drops, wingsuits, and 27 different mountains with much more of an open world to explore than in previous SSX games all make for a lot of work, after all.
SSX will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360. The PS3 version is said to be getting a level exclusive to the console, offering some incentive to get the PS3 version for those who own both consoles.
