Atlus talks King of Fighters XIII patch and delayed DLC character
When Atlus released The King of Fighters XIII in North America, the game arrived with plenty of fighters, lots of modes and a generally satisfying online mode. However, there definitely was room for refinement. That refinement will be coming in the form of a patch.
Today, Atlus outlined some plans for the patch, which the company assured fans is coming soon. While no date for the patch was specified, Atlus revealed that the patch will seek to make the game's infrastructure more consistent for users, ensuring that the evaluation given connections is more accurate to the actual play experience. Ranked host-side filtering will also be possible, which should allow hosts to eliminate matches where they are stuck playing with folks who have poor connections.
Besides connection issues, the patch looks to fix a number of rare glitches. Atlus didn't actually specify what those glitches are, only that they're rare. The King of Fighters XIII may be in line for a patch, but really the connection issues were its most consistent problem. It makes sense that Atlus would address those issues most aggressively. A more stable online environment can only serve to improve what already is one of the more enjoyable traditional fighters of this generation.
While Atlus was announcing the patch information, it also spared a moment to reveal that the NESTS Kyo character won't be available for download on the PlayStation Network until January 10, 2012. While the character is still scheduled to arrive on December 20 for Xbox 360, a technical error is preventing the same thing from happening on Sony's platform.
"We apologize to our PlayStation 3 system KOF XIII fans for the slight delay of the next downloadable character," stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at ATLUS. "In gratitude to our fans for their patience, we will be discounting the NESTS Kyo character to $2.99 for a limited time when it is finally released in the North American PlayStation Store on 1/10."
The King of Fighters XIII already features a large enough roster to keep fighting game fans busy for a long, long while. Check out our review if you haven't already, then consider picking up the game.
