Final Fantasy Type-0 Tops Japanese Sales Charts
With the Playstation Vita releasing soon, the PSP is soon to be on its way out. However, that's not stopping it from knocking one out of the ballpark. Final Fantasy Type-0, the latest Final Fantasy spin-off for Sony's portable system, has managed to top Japanese sales charts despite fierce competition.
Final Fantasy Type-0's first week on store shelves ended with almost 500,000 units sold, handily beating out both Kirby's Return to Dreamland and the PS3 release of Idolmaster 2. Both franchises are popular, but it seems the Final Fantasy name still holds more sway. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Dissidia had very similar sales numbers on the PSP as well.
Yet as successful as this game has proven to be, Square-Enix has yet to announce a US release. North American fans should keep their hopes up, though. Square-Enix has claimed they're looking into a US version of the action RPG in the past, and Hajime Tabata has even gone so far as to say he wanted Type-0 to appeal to North American players. With sales figures like these and a near perfect score from Famitsu, an English translation seems the next logical step.
While waiting for an official announcement about a US release, those with Japanese PSN accounts can sate their need for more Final Fantasy by checking out Type-0's demo, available on the Playstation Store since August 11th. Of course, playing the demo may only make the wait even harder to bear.
