Bayonetta 2: Why The Wii U?
Blindsided was I when a blaring moon and iconic gun-stiletto meant the reveal of what President and CEO Tatsuya Minami is calling a "true sequel" for the Bayonetta fan.
Supervisor and supermodel rear enthusiast, Hideki Kamiya, teased "we were secretly making one the entire time" when referring the "lots of requests" he's been bombarded with for a sequel.
The over-the-top Umbra Witch has ruffled every feather within reach since her debut on the 360 and Playstation 3 back in 2010, but her leggy mark in the industry was still sky high.
Bayonetta 2 is no longer a secret, but it already has the exclusive limitation of the Wii U. With a pricepoint of $300 and technology that "doesn't make it a real, true "next generation" gaming console," Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia isn't convinced the "main draw" of Nintendo will assure big profit.
Despite "Mario" and "Pikmin," Bhatia says it's looking grim, but if the Wii U sells half of the 97 million Wiis sold worldwide, Nintendo will be looking at success.
PlatinumGames has announced that a partnership with Nintendo would lead to a more successful brand for Bayonetta herself after a back and forth discussion with publisher SEGA.
"For empowering our heroine with incredible new action to introducing new characters (which you may have noticed in the teaser trailer), Bayonetta will further expand on the mythology of the Trinity of Realities – Inferno, Paradiso, and our human world. I can't wait to take the journey with you," said Director Yusuke Hashimoto.
Follow Kamiya on Twitter for all his humorous commentary that helped turn the game announcement into a trending topic consisting of obligatory "OMFG, Bayonetta" tweets.
