Cave Story 3D Upgrade Comes To eShop Next Month

As if we didn't have enough already, another iteration of Cave Story will be available for purchase on the 3DS eShop next month.

On October 4th, you can pick up the Nicalis-published version of Cave Story on the eShop for $9.99. This version is effectively Cave Story+ without the HD art and music featured in the Steam game. The eShop edition does include multi-layered 3D, extra challenge modes and widescreen support. Featuring the sprite-based graphics from Japanese developer Pixel's original indie PC release, Cave Story on the eShop looks like the better of the two versions available on the 3DS as many gamers were unsatisfied with the upgraded visuals in last year's Cave Story 3D.

A 2D version is also coming to DSiware, which will be the second port of the game available for that system as well.

How many are too many versions of the same game?
