No 1080p for Mass Effect 3 on Wii U

Mass Effect 3 is one of the most anticipated launch titles for Wii U. Not only have there been reports saying this will be the best-looking version of the game yet, but it also happens to be one of the front runners for Game of the Year.

Unfortunately, that excitement took a bit of a blow earlier today.

During an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Straight Right (the Australian developer porting the game to Wii U), have gone on record to say that the game will not run in 1080p.

The CEO of the company, Tom Crago, simply said "The game will run at 720p."

That statement deals a very serious blow to Wii U's credibility before it even launches. Fans of the series (and indeed, those who might invest in it for the very first time) would expect the same standard offered by current consoles, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

However, that same quality will be absent from the version launching on a console that is supposed to offer superior technology compared to any console currently on the market.

The good news is that the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 will include exclusive comics detailing "the story so far" and weapons not seen in any other version of the game. The Wii U edition will also include all the DLC to date and, of course, will take advantage of the unique Wii U gamepad.

Of course, those points don't make the 720p news any less disappointing. Looks aren't everything, though, right?
