Rumour: Nintendo Power ceasing publication

Video game news in print is a tough business.

Ars Technica claims to have the scoop that Nintendo Power will cease publication soon. The magazine debuted in 1988 with a strangely-coloured Super Mario Bros. 2 cover. As of 2007, Nintendo Power has been run semi-independently of the company, outsourced to Future Publishing. Reports say Nintendo isn't interested in extending that partnership, or taking over direct control of the magazine once again.

Staff was supposedly informed of the magazine's shuttering last week, and are currently in the process of being moved to other Future Publishing projects.

It's not clear how many (if any) issues are left to publish after the recently released number 281.
