Metal Gear Solid 5 confirmed by Kojima
Hideo Kojima, the Kojima Productions head and the man billed with creating the Metal Gear franchise, confirmed Metal Gear Solid 5 is a thing, according to an IG Magazine interview, as reported by The Escapist Magazine.
Aside from confirming the game's existence, Kojima offered a few vague details of what we can expect from the title once it's finally revealed -- whenever that is.
"On the topic of Metal Gear Solid 5,I can tell you two things," he told the French IG Magazine. "There will be more infiltration, spying, and convincing people to do you 'a favor' than in the previous MGS. I loved the idea of the social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution that we've seen. And if I say more about it, the ninja PR woman behind the door will chop me into pieces."
The supposed focus on infiltration, spying -- and even Deus Ex: Human Revolution inspired dialogue mechanics -- are an obvious change of pace from the most recent Metal Gear title, the yet-to-be-released Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which is being developed by Bayonetta and Vanquish developer Platinum Games. Kojima confirmed MGS5 and Revengeance, which is a lot more action oriented than any Metal Gear title in the series' history, won't be connected.
"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never pretended to be Metal Gear Solid," he said. "It's not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It's a spin-off that tries something different. We haven't seen the last of Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots."
Kojima last spoke about an MGS5 with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, though he didn't exactly confirm it was going to happen. He merely said it would probably happen "at some point."
But now, if I can take these quotes as confirmation that MGS5 will take the series back to its stealthy roots and star Solid Snake -- as well as throw in some mechanics inspired by my favorite 2011 game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution -- then, well, I think we can go ahead and star the engines on the MGS5 hype wagon. The big questions remaining? For starters, when will Kojima unveil the title? And will we be seeing it this console generation?
I'm betting my Drebin points on "No" for that last question. What say you?
