Assassin's Creed III pre-order campaign on track for great success
Ubisoft has something new to crow about, and for once it's not Just Dance sales. The company announced today that Assassin's Creed III, the fifth installment in the popular series about a fellow named Desmond who dives into the memories of his ancestors to kill people throughout various time periods, is on track to become the most pre-ordered game in Ubisoft's history.
According to the press release, Assassin's Creed III already has as many pre-orders as Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (the third game in the series) enjoyed during its entire period of availability ahead of release. Meanwhile, the forthcoming title also has enjoyed more than 10 times the number of pre-orders that Assassin's Creed: Revelations had during the same period of early availability.
The crazy numbers show that fans are definitely interested in giving Desmond and his ancestors another look, despite the apparent consensus being that Assassin's Creed: Revelations was a disappointing entry.
“On October 30th players will experience the biggest game launch in Ubisoft’s history with the highly anticipated release of Assassins Creed III,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Ubisoft. “With a development cycle of three years, Assassins Creed III is the true next-generation experience of the Assassins Creed brand. The production value of the game, combined with the biggest marketing commitment we’ve ever made, will make Assassins Creed III the highest-selling Assassin’s Creed game ever. Additionally, the new setting and hero makes this the perfect time to jump into the series for anyone that has not previously played an Assassin’s Creed game.”
As you may recall, Assassin's Creed III will play out during the American Revolution. The game will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC platforms, and is under development by Ubisoft Montreal with support from otherinternal studios.
If you live outside of North America, know that you also can pre-order. The game just became eligible for pre-order in Europe, the Middle East and Asia this week, so it'll be awhile before numbers are available in those regions.
