So, what do you listen to?
August 27, 2009

As a jaded hipster, I am always oddly fascinated by what the rest of my gaming brethren are currently listening to. I was never one to think I had obscure musical taste, but being a reformed hardcore scene weirdo I was used to being surrounded by other people with similar taste in music. Now that I'm immersed in the wonderful world of video game journalism, I realize I have very little to talk about musically!

The odds are good that at least one other music junkie like myself exists around these hallowed halls of Honest Gamers. So, what are YOU listening to right now and what do you gravitate towards musically?

Me, I pretty much have infinite music at my fingertips and tend to get lost in it. Still, I find myself reverting to bands that had a huge influence in my musical upbringing. I try to look forward musically, but bands like Rocket From The Crypt, The Dillinger Escape Plan, This Day Forward, Deadguy, Saetia, Frail, and "you know your from NJ if you used these bands to hook up with girls" powerhouses Penfold and Saves the Day always seem to make it back to the top of my rotation.

I used to keep up with all the hip indie music sites, but I've lost interest as of late. This summer I've mostly been listening to Neil Young's Archives, David Bowie live in Santa Monica, Talking Heads and Pink Flag by Wire. A Tribe Called Quest has been filling the hip hop slot and Autechre and Venetian Snares get a play whenever I want to geek out to some IDM. The last new album I listened to was maudlin of the well. I thought it was a load of rubbish at first but now I actually quite like it.

I mostly only listen to music that the majority of music listeners enjoy, which I've learned means my taste in music sucks.

I'll listen to anything from Weezer to Collective Soul to Garth Brooks to Bryan Adams to Pink to Rod Stewart to The Cranberries to James Blunt to Franz Ferdinand to Blessid Union of Souls to Better Than Ezra to Green Day to Marcy Playground to Tori Amos to Blue October to... you get the idea.

word JANUS I forgot you like Autechre. I've been blasting Confield and Chiastic slide a lot lately.

I listen to a lot of NIN, The Cure, and Bauhaus yet I try to tell myself I'm better than the fat goths in fishnet shirts. in my defense, I don't have a Downward Spiral tattoo. Nick Cave, Starkweather, Ulver, NoMeansNo, Skinny Puppy, and <code> are all awesome too.

I also like Autechre.

no genj. though I do have an odd, fading imprint of Robin Finck's hands on my asscheeks.

surprisingly the only NIN things I've paid for with money are Ghosts, the BYIT bluray, and a couple tour shirts the other night. in my defense, he told everybody to steal his shit anyway.
