I don't have time to think, I'm too busy laughing at everyone else's reactions.

Edit: Actually, my first reaction while Jack was talking to his dad was, "Oh God, they're in purgatory! XD"

I can't decide if I liked the big revelation or not. I certainly took me by surprise and the whole scene was artfully composed, but... hmm.

It does come off as weird, yeah.

The most odd thing for me was the purgatory reunion. I mean, if all the people that ended up on the island reunited together after passing away, past, present, and future, shouldn't there be more people in the church?

I don't mean everyone, but, the room should be more crowded than it was. Or was this simply "We couldn't get everyone in time for the finale" deal?

I've never seen Lost and I have no intention of seeing it, so I don't mind being spoiled. Can someone tell me what happens, so I can comprehend the "oohs" and "aahs"?

I got disconnected for the rest of the night immediately after posting my message. :(

Okay, here's what you need to know for the final season: people want to get off the island, but a smoke monster, which has been terrorizing the island for thousands of years, and is now using the body of one of the dead characters, wants to get off as well. It also wants to sink the island in the process.

Last 40 or whatever minutes of the season: The island gets unplugged, literally, and acts as a countdown to the island being destroyed. In the process, the smoke monster finally gets the ability to leave the island, but loses its invulnerability in the process. So the main character (Jack, the doctor and apparently "The One") and the smoke monster fight on a steep cliff as it tries to escape. Jack gets a fatal stab wound, but the smoke monster gets shot by another character (why did it have to be Kate? :( ), and Jack kicks it off the cliff, killing it. Jack then goes back to where the island was unplugged, to plug it back in to prevent the island from sinking, while almost the rest of the other characters race to a damaged plane that's about to take off.

Now here's where things got a bit confusing for some viewers. Jack plugs the island, and the others make it into the air, and at the same time, the "flashsideways" that has been occurring throughout this final season is finally explained. It wasn't some new reality that many were guessing it to be, but instead some sort of purgatory to help guide all (ie some) of the main characters together, who have died in the past, present, and future. They all get reunited in a church setting, where Jack meets his dead father, and before they all go "into the light", the final moments go back to Jack on the island as he's about to die from his stab wound. He falls to the ground in the bamboo forest that he first fell in at the start of the series, and as he's about to pass away, he sees the damaged plane flying away.

*credits roll*

Well, at least that's how I saw it. >_>

I hadn't actually though about that last bit, but yeah, that was the scene the series started with wasn't it?

Yup, the first thing you see is a closeup of Jack's eye as he wakes up in the bamboo forest. And the dog is there, too, except he runs off in the first episode, whereas he lies beside Jack as he dies in the last episode.
