Obviously, if I have a profile on this site, it means that I play video games. I also happen to write, and the two have made a harmonious combination for a hobby. I mainly write FAQs and reviews, and *try* to stick to one of these categories:
-RPG and non-linear adventure games
-Anything with horror or b-movie elements
-Anything unique, obscure, or just plain weird
Sounds broad, but it also means you probably won't see a Super Mario Bros. 3 review from me any time soon.
Title: The kinda, sorta obligatory "What the hell did you get for Christmas" topic. Posted: December 24, 2010 (11:19 PM)
I know it's early, but my wife and I already got to do some opening at her dad's place. We got a Canon digital camera with an 8 GB SD Card. I have many other things to open here and at my parents' place tomorrow. Oh, it shall be a great harvest. Mwahahahahahah!

Sometimes I get games for Christmas that I genuinely want and sometimes I get games that I'm interested in but don't want to spend money on. This year I got one of both, with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Metroid: Other M.
Also got a new digital camera (to replace the one that got stolen) and a 1TB external hard drive, as well as Inception and Lost: Season 6 on DVD.

My parents bought me Family Guy vol. 6.
They thought because they both had different covers that they were different DVD's. No matter. I'm taking one back and getting something else. Also got Fringe season 1, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 4, The Hangover, Return of the Vampire, a ton of clothes, plus I splurged and bought myself some goodies on Steam. 19 games for roughly $60 is a helluva bounty.

I've sort've moved on from the consumeristic tradition that is Christmas. That said, I did receive a few unexpected gifts. The book "Ex-Heroes" from the Director of Population: 2 (which I think is an appeal for me to hunt down the film rights), a beautiful scarf from my parents as well as the continued right to keep living with them rent free, the board game "Mr. Jack in New York" from my mom (specifically) and an expansion to the card game Dominion from my sister.

OK... let's see if I can recall my cache without having to look around the tree...
* A red Sony MP3 player from my mother. A rare Christmas gift I might actually enjoy, but red? GACK!
* A Fushigi Magic Ball (One of those "as seen on TV" products; looks like a mercury sphere enclosed inside an acrylic shell. Actually looks kinda fun to play with.)
* Clothes. Why anyone would ever want to buy me clothes, I'll never know. I rarely, if ever, wear anything that I get on Christmas.
I'm usually the only person in my family -- immediate or otherwise -- who goes out of the way to give fun stuff to everyone I know. I bought my brother two Wii games and an I Love Lucy DVD set; I bought my mother two Elvis Presley concert DVDs; and I got my father a decorative European-style Volkswagen license plate.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Some cool pajamas
A giant mug o' hot cocoa
Very cool Christmas all around, I'd say.

Haven't observed this year. Got nothing, gave nothing.

Flintstones DVD box sets.
The Go is so awesome--and so sexy in white. Don't know why I didn't pick this thing up sooner.
