MegaMan the Animated Series
February 01, 2019

MegaMan was one of those videogame cartoon adaptations that I was happy to consider a guilty pleasure, surprising me when it aired on TV in a sunny Saturday morning and enjoying every minute of it from the kick ass intro to the end of the first episode shown. It had lots of personality and a lot of characters thrown for the blue bomber to do battle with as it were the case with his gaming counterpart.

The usual gang of good guys included the titular Megaman, his faithful robotic dog Rush, and even his sister Roll, who would use her own arm weapon filled with cleaning tools to combat Wily's henchbots. On the bad guy's corner we had Protoman, who would play his part as Megaman's brother/greatest adversary along with Cutman and Gutsman, who would also be joined with another robot master in any other episode. Of course there was Dr. Wily who was voiced to perfection as well as keeping his lunatic personality of a mad genius throughout.

The corny catchphrases along with cheesy dialogue and campy nature mixed with entertaining action and a myriad of characters through the series made MegaMan a much liked series in my opinion. There wasn't a weekend where I would not wake up and wait for the latest episode to be aired on TV.

There was even one episode where X was featured as he travels back to MegaMan's time period to capture Vile and Spark Mandrill who ran rampart while time travelling. On said episode X was seen as a reckless justice avenger who would stop at nothing to bring maverick robots back to his time, regardless of wanton destruction being left behind in the process.

MegaMan ran for 2 seasons starting in 1994 and ending in '95, with a third season planned but never developed. The complete series would be later distributed by ADV films on DVD.
