Type: Review Game: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP) Posted: October 04, 2009 (12:26 PM)
You know, Shin Megami Tensei fans have had it pretty good lately. The demon-centric RPG series has seen more than half a dozen stateside releases in the last few years alone, and the breakthrough success of Persona 3 and 4 has finally earned this once niche series a spot in gamers' collective consciousness. What better way to capitalize on that than by crafting a revamped reissue of the original Persona to give newer fans a look back at the series' origins? Despite this revival's smattering of...
Type: Review Game: Soulcalibur IV (Xbox 360) Posted: September 01, 2008 (08:34 PM)
Namco’s mistakes have been remedied: fewer exploits, the removal of the somewhat pointless Soul Charge technique and slightly slower gameplay – seemingly small changes, but ones that nonetheless make for a smoother, more refined combat system.
... A compilation burdened by games that don’t showcase why players loved SNK so much in the days of the arcade. While there’s definitely some good content here, Vol. 1 feels like a missed opportunity...
Type: Review Game: Devil May Cry 4 (PC) Posted: July 11, 2008 (11:30 PM)
The Devil May Cry series hasn't exactly been consistent. While the original game was a unique and ultra-stylish masterpiece, the second outing was a universally reviled mess. The third game had the gameplay back on track, but was deemed too tricky by all but the most hardcore of action fans. It turns out that the fourth time's the charm, because Devil May Cry 4 is as good as the self-proclaimed "hard stylish action" franchise has ever been.
Type: Review Game: Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 (DS) Posted: July 04, 2008 (10:20 AM)
As long as there are people, there will be an endless line of medical patients in need of surgery. That's good news for Trauma Center hero, Derek Stiles, as this means plenty of new hospital adventures to be had. Even better, his latest batch of patients in Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 make for some of the most exciting surgical operations to date.
Type: Review Game: Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition (PC) Posted: June 22, 2008 (01:46 PM)
Proving once again that they are the king of franchise-milking, Capcom is back with Lost Planet: Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition -- the third release of Lost Planet since its inception a mere year and a half ago. Each iteration since the original has added a bevy of new content ranging from new weapons to playable characters like Mega Man. While there's certainly no shortage of content in this latest release, the major problems that have plagued the game since the start remain ...
When a developer designs a DS action game around the touch screen, they’re just asking for trouble. All too often, action games that use the touch screen as the centerpiece of the experience end up playing like a complete mess. That didn’t stop Ninja Gaiden developer, Team Ninja, from trying. Amazingly, their newest effort, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, not only makes the touch screen work – it offers up some of the DS’ best thrills to date.
Type: Review Game: Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis (PlayStation 2) Posted: April 01, 2008 (04:32 PM)
Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis is Gust's attempt at a fresh RPG, and while not all of its new ideas are home-runs, it’s still an engaging and worthwhile adventure for fans.
Type: Review Game: Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Posted: February 24, 2008 (08:06 PM)
Kaim's journey might be accompanied by a story that's wildly different from the crowd, but its gameplay isn't far removed from that of other JRPGs. Battles are randomly encountered, turn-based affairs, but more strategic than you might expect. Both you and your enemies have front row and back row formations where characters in the front shield the rear characters from damage.
