Deadly Premonition
April 07, 2010

After a few hours with the game, I don't know what to make of it. It would be fair to call it a divisive game, maybe. There will be people who find it horrendous, as the production values are fairly low and it looks and plays like an early PS2/DC game.

The storyline, however, seems half-decent with the main character, Francis York, bouncing creepy lines off of someone named Zach. I don't know who Zach is. It might be the cameraman. York is a strange dude, constantly looking for clues in his coffee and expressing his troubled past with women.

The game's part open-world, survival horror, and triples as a murder mystery. It's certainly not the worst $20 I've spent on a budget title, but I just can't figure out what's going on or what the developers were aiming for, if they were aiming for anything in the first place.

I'll have to keep playing and see if anything changes, but for now, Deadly Premonition has me at a loss for accurate description.

Did you ever get around to beating the game?

I haven't beaten it. Over 24 hours in, I stopped after I couldn't seem to beat a boss due to not having any ammo. I tried quite a few times with the unlimited pistol, then decided that I already got enough out of the game to justify the budget price and haven't looked back. The game was beginning to focus too much on its weakest elements as an action/survival horror game, anyway.
