Do we all remember Street Fighter from the good ol' days? I always will, as that is one series which shook the ground from under me. So when I saw that there was another fighter with the Street Fighter characters in it, I knew I had to pick it up. And yet after awhile I found myself using fighters that I have never seen before. That is the beauty of Capcom vs SNK. There are so many fighters to choose from, that there is a new one to learn each and every moment.

STORY (3/5): No, there is no story at all in this game, however the character choice will fit into this category, and that is a strength in Capcom vs SNK. Over forty different fighters, so what could go wrong. It would be nice if there was some underlying story in this game, but you can live without it.

GRAPHICS (9/15): Some say they are horrible, looking at the sprites as you play, but I enjoy them. All of the characters look like they should, and they while they stand extremely out in the screen, I kinda enjoy that look. The only problems are the backgrounds are extremely bland, and/or annoying. I would've liked a little more detail to them.

SOUND (5/10): Each course has it's own music, but to bad none of it is that good. You won't be forced to turn down the volume, but you won't be dancing to it. The announcers voice on the other hand may need to be muted. I really hate that guy.

GAMEPLAY (41/45): This is where Capcom vs SNK shines. The fighter mechanics are very controlled, and with over 40 different fighters the selection is solid. There is the Groove system which will adjust certain game modes and control of your characters. I really do not like the Groove system much, but I can see how it affects gameplay. There is also a Ratio system which lets you adjust the strength of up to three characters. This adds a strategic element to the game.

You will play through a certain amount of characters, before winning the regular mode, or you can play the insane survivor mode; which will pit you against all of the characters in the game. You will have to be a master to be able to complete this, and I am not one yet. The options in this game is alot, and it is extremely fun to play through all your variety of characters.

CONTROLS (10/10): As most classic fighters, you will need to learn a combination of buttons to be able ot perform special techniques special to your character. These are skills easy to learn; hard to master. You can also go into the button smash tactic, which works to a degree. I prefer using the left analog stick to the D-Pad, because it is easier to perform the special moves and I like how the implemented the fact you can choose what control stick you want to use. The controls are very responsive, and an asset to this game.

REPLAYABILITY (8/10): This is my favorite fighter to play with my friends around; even more so than Smash Brothers. The amount of characters you and your friends can fool around will give you entertainment for hours. Just fighting around with your characters of choice, or just one you picked randomly you will never be disapointed.

DIFFICULTY (5/5): It's a fighter and having controlled opponents is definitely a needed neccissity in the game. You can set their level of difficulty, and then work your way through the game. The moves are not hard to master, and you should be able to figure it out.

OVERALL (81/100): This is a great fighter. While mechanically it is not the best on the Playstation 2, the gameplay more than makes up for it. This is one hell of a fun time to just pick up and play through 4 or 5 matches. I highly recommend Capcom vs SNK to anyone who thoroughly enjoyed the old Street Fighters on the SNES.
