Altered Beast review (Arcade) |

Reviewed by Winston Wolf (September 27, 2010) Not only that, it succeeded: whereas the “technically brilliant” titles of yesteryear now wallow in their “good for their time” dubiety, Altered Beast remains the same guilty pleasure it always has. Undoubtedly, I think it was its vision all along to become the cheesy cult-classic of the video game world, to be so exuberantly, intriguingly ridiculous it would never be forgotten. Keep laughing at the thought, the absurd notion its lambasted legacy has only helped it become what it is. It’s Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. It won. |

Altered Beast review (Sega Master System) |
|||
Reviewed by Marc Golding (January 12, 2004) The five stages of side-scrolling jump, punch and kick tedium in the bestiary that we played in the arcades, was dulled significantly for our Sega Genesis experience. It was dulled even further still for the four level Master System experience—an unfortunate copy of a copy—so that it is a shadow of its former self, which was a flimsy silhouette of a game to begin with. |

Altered Beast review (Arcade) |

Reviewed by goldenvortex (June 24, 2004) As I pick through the mind of retro gamers and those who dig “old school” I have never found a fan of Altered Beast. “Boy! That game stinks!” is usually the response I get and when I defend it I get something like “What the **** are you on?” It seems, now the mist has well cleared and the cobwebs have now settled on this archaic action classic and most people are now ready to forget it, despite Sega’s attempts to re-launch it on more up to date systems. |
