July 02, 2002 Well most people don't realize this but there were two versions of Punch-Out because of Mike Tyson's mental and law problems. So seeing Mike Tyson's Punch Out was selling well, yet there was still the issue of Mike Tyson being a badsorts, they made the same game with Mr. Dream at the end. I would much rather fight Tyson if you ask me.STORY (4/5): Now there is no story, so why am I giving it a 4? Because the boxers you face are all memorable. Who will ever forget Glass Joe or my personal favorite King Hippo. Each have a memorable weakness. Oh did I mention the Russian Drunk
GRAPHICS (18/20): Now the graphics aren't that great really, but the characters are. Each fighter has their own little touch, as Little Mac smack them in the face. Some have a sparkling jewel and others do a strange blinking thing. The graphics are smooth and well this is the NES. Not much better than this.
SOUND (6/10): You must always remember that the early days did not have the greatest soundtracks, and well I do like the beeping and all, but this is not the greatest. It does ok, but the sound is easily the most unmemorable part of Punch Out.
GAMEPLAY (50/50): The perfect 50 in the gameplay department. You go around punching people in the face, and doing various simple moves and taking advantage of other fighters weakness. Some of you probably are saying boxing games suck, and well most do. However Punch Out stands above and beyond. The tricks are great and the controls are very responsive. I have spent alot of time just playing through over and over, and for the time period this is the perfect Gameplay.
REPLAYABILITY (8/10): In truth, Punch Out should not have strong replay, for it is a boxing game with set matches, and only a password system which occurs very rarely. However you can keep going through again and again, and well it is fun. Punch Out does the job perfectly.
DIFFICULTY (5/5): In the beggining once you figure out the characters weakness you will be able to fly through, but near the end things get tricky. Once you reach Bald Bull second time, get ready for some fun. Things get hectic and near on impossible to win, and that is what makes it fun.
NO MIKE TYSON (-2): It's just not the same playing Mr. Dream instead of Iron Mike. That is the biggest problem with this game. Luckily it is easier to find the first PunchOut
OVERALL (89/100): Punch-Out is one of those games you will never forget, and will always shine in your heart. I will remember the battles I fought making my way to the master. And yet with Mr.Dream at the end it is one less dream possible. It was better punching Mike Tyson in the face. So if you have a choice get Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, but if you can't this is still a great game.
