Date unavailable Baseball Mogul 2000 is hands-down the best available pure baseball simulation ever made, at this present time. No other baseball simulation can match the amount of options presented by Baseball Mogul 2000. The developers at Infinite Monkey produced a very tight product.In Baseball Mogul 2000, you control every aspect of a major league baseball team. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. You control the starting lineup, the pitching rotation, the gaming philosophy, the minor league prospects, even the ticket and beer prices. You are a one man owner, manager, and general manager.
However, you are not a player. You do not directly control the outcome of each game. Sure, you can sign players and trade prospects to acquire the top talent, but as real baseball tells us, the best laid plans are still suspect to ruin. You must also worry about rising payroll, aging superstars, and falling attendence, all very real problems in a real baseball atmosphere. These problems presented in the game make Baseball Mogul 2000 a very realistic game.
Baseball Mogul 2000 is not a game for a casual baseball fan. There's very little action. It WILL appeal to hardcore baseball fans who are interested in how a certain player's career might turn out. It will also appeal to hardcore simulation fans, because as simulations go in general, Baseball Mogul 2000 is a very very good one, possibly the best.
And the game has the potential to never end. After one season ends, a new one just starts up. Personally, I have run up to fifteen seasons. It's an outstanding feeling to groom a player from the minor leagues, to the big leagues, and into an all-star. It's also very entertaining to have the Red Sox beat the Cubs in the ultimate World Series.
Baseball Mogul 2000 does not come with correct Major League rosters; the game was released in 1999, and Major League Baseball did not allow them a license. However, Baseball Mogul 2000 is very customizable, and current roster patches can be found very easily on the internet.
Baseball Mogul 2000 is almost entirely text-based. There are some graphic files sprinkled in, mainly player graphics. Baseball Mogul 2000 uses Windows sounds; it packs none of its own.
If you're a diehard baseball fan, or a simulation junkie, then you must play Baseball Mogul 2000. A demo can be found on Infinite Monkey's website, if you're unsure if this is your thing. However, once you start playing this game, it can be very hard to stop.
