I have played a lot of Game Boy games over the years, so I would like to consider myself a fan of the portable system. Every time I go on a vacation, which involves a long car ride or long plane ride, I make sure to take along my Game Boy, along with some of my favorite games for the portable system. Mario had easily become the emblem of Nintendo, and possibly the most popular videogame character easily, rivally Sonic. So of course another Mario game came up on the gameboy, this one after they realized how to use the gameboys power for action games. Following in the footsteps on Mario Land, ML2 is filled with wackiness from beginning to end. Its stellar soundtrack, originality and variety in environments more than make up for some of the platforming “floatiness” that is present in Mario's movement.

When the first Super Mario Land appeared alongside Nintendo's Game Boy, it was quite successful, due in large to it being a really rather good platformer. As such, it can't have surprised anyone when Ninty announced a sequel called, in a shock move, Super Mario Land 2.
