The Sims review

Reviewed April 28, 2005

Jason Venter says: "Underneath the slick interface, beneath the elevator music and the gibberish we’re to take as conversation, The Sims is just a waste of time. It may amuse you for hours, days or even weeks. For those hours and for the sadistic relationship you can share with your unfortunate sim, the package is arguably worth a purchase. But in the end, you’ll grow to despise it."

ratking says: "To have the oppurtunity to marry your one true love and have children. To own a bachelor pad with your friend, and enter the dating service. To get your dream job and become an international spy, an Astronaut, or even a superhero. This is what dreams are made of, and Sims lets you work your dreams in this simulated world. "

This formula has obviously worked, judging from all the Sim games on the market: SimCity, SimEarth, SimIsland, even SimFarm. "

True says: "I don’t get it. I don’t think I’ll ever get it. What the hell is so fun about watching someone else live their life? Why are we obsessed with reality shows like “Hogan Knows Best”, “Nick And Jessica” and “The Osbournes”? Have we suddenly become so desperate to leave our own lives that we will blindly follow someone else’s? I can’t answer that question, I really can’t. So if you sit there and ask me “Why is The Sims so popular” or “Why are there so many expansion packs and sequels to this game” I..."
