Sonic's flashy revolution concerns an issue far more important than pace. It's the one critical to every platformer, the one that separates the triple-hopping superstars from the clumsy goons tripping off the bottom of the screen: control.

I was able to choose between jumping to ledges far above my hedgehog or descending to the depths of lakes. Going one way might lead to a long series of slides that send Sonic careening into a mammoth ocean of oil. However, a different path might keep him safely above that ecological disaster.

Being Sonic isn’t as easy as one might think. Once one looks past the glamour of being a world hero, his job is pretty tough. Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, is constantly kidnapping the furry animals of the world and only Sonic can save them. This might seem like an easy task at first but it is much more difficult than it presents itself. The reason for this complication is because Dr. Robotnik has set up machines to try to take out Sonic so he doesn’t have to take out the blue hedgehog him...

The sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog may be a perfect example of a follow up that takes the already impressive foundations and builds a more concrete structure over it. The original Sonic game had a few minor problems with level originality and variance but it still provided us with a solid platform adventure that is still enjoyable today. Sonic 2 takes up the similar speedy style that the first game brought forth and adds in shorter yet more creative levels, a spunky new sidekick and a hand...
