The Official Game Booklet for Gibo: Stepmother's Sin warns us that the fictional relationships in the game "do not necessarily demonstrate the full range of sensitivity, communication and intimacy necessary to sustain a real life interpersonal relationship." That disclaimer seems unnecessary to me. Even though he disrespects most women and thinks of them as nothing more than sperm receptacles, the hero -- Yusuke Yagami -- is very complimentary towards his new mother."I can't believe you don't like giving blowjobs. You look like an excellent cock-sucker."
Unlike the majority of female-laden hentai, Gibo only focuses on four characters. There's you (Yusuke), the titular stepmother (Misako), your new younger stepsister (Shiina), and your cousin who you regularly have experimental sex with (Mio). Your father is conspicuously absent due to his business travels, which gives you plenty of opportunities to put the moves on your new mother . . . or just shame her mercilessly. It's your call, really.
You see, poor Yusuke had to experience that moment no one ever wants to experience: coming home and finding his mother in bed with another man. Well, actually, she was up against a wall . . . but she was enjoying it and drooling all over the place. Yusuke's father didn't much like this either, so he divorced her. Since then, Yusuke's basically grown up on his own, since his father is so often away on business. And he spends a lot of time nailing girls, especially his cousin Mio.
"I'm in the prime of my life and needless to say, I'm horny all the time. I'm often woken up by my hardon. I have good grades, and I can pretty much fuck any girl I want. It may be a little odd to say this about myself, but I think I'm a pretty good catch. I'm not flattering myself. I'm just stating the facts."
When a busty 37-year-old lady moves into Yusuke's house claiming to be his new mother, it's a bit of a shock for our hero. How can this woman suddenly arrive and pretend to be part of his family? It must be a trick! Women cannot be trusted! So, 20-year-old Yusuke sets his mind to an ignoble task: he will turn new mother Misako into his sex slave and thus prove that women are all sluts on the inside. He might do the same to his new virginal 18-year-old sister, too, because Yusuke believes innocent young girls are actually sluts in training. They just don't know it yet. So, when little Shiina gets all shocked by your morning wood, don't hide it! Spread your legs and proudly show off your erection -- that's Yusuke's way!
Yusuke: "See this erect penis? It's yours. To put in your mouth or in your pussy... whatever you like."
Shiina's reply: "Really? It's mine? Ahh, Oniichan... I'm so happy!"
In an attempt to prove how evil and slutty your new stepmother is, you even violate any sane person's intimacy limits and ask her about her favorite positions. "Do you enjoy cunnilingus?" Not only is Misako totally shocked and embarrassed by the topic in general, she doesn't even know what your technical sex words mean. But you keep pressing, because you KNOW she's really a whore deep down.
The whole situation is unfortunate because she's trying so hard to be understanding and friendly to win you over (like any good step-parent would), but you're just behaving like a total dick. You even make Misako watch a video you recorded... of her DAUGHTER taking a shower and playing with herself!
You're pretty much condemned to follow this path even if you're a sane human who realizes that Yusuke is one totally sick and twisted individual. You'll always try to make Misako into your sex slave . . . your choice comes in whether you wash her back, or ask her to scrub yours. Or whether you force her to give you a blowjob, or convince her with words. The end result is the same, but at least you can control the methods, which will alter the course of the story by influencing Misako's LOVE and LUST meters. These all-important attributes affect whether you earn the "Happy Wedding" or "Dead Stripper" finale . . . or any of 12 other endings.
I can't really get behind the whole slave and bondage aspect. It's just not something I care for, even though Gibo does a great job at avoiding the more repulsive possibilities. On the other hand, I can totally understand the mother-lust. I mean, who hasn't wanted to screw their own parent at some point? So, although I didn't much enjoy whipping my virtual mother, the erotic massage and dusk-'til-dawn love-making events struck me as quite ordinary. Nothing unusual at all about your mother screaming how much she loves cock.
Or maybe those scenes seemed ordinary because I saw them every time I played through the game. At first, I was quite put off by Gibo -- no matter what choices I made, I witnessed the same (or very similar) events that consistently treated sex as something two people do for simple pleasure. Call me a hopeless romantic, but I'm a fan of relationships based on love.
But then something changed. I played more of the game, uncovered some of the harder-to-find scenes, and came to understand Gibo's sick, twisted appeal. It's hopelessly deranged, but rarely crosses the line into disgusting . . . and more importantly, it's obvious that the writers and translators are self-aware and playing the entire adventure up for laughs. If you go too far with your depravity and earn the "Size Matters" ending, there's no attempt to make a deep philosophical message about the evils of mistreating others. Your stepmother simply runs away and leaves a letter explaining that "you're just too big, and it hurts."
"What the hell? She left because my dick's too big?"
The art is all drawn quite nicely and the dialogue is translated with a bare minimum of grammatical errors. This is important because it's hard to take a game seriously when the translation is fraught with spelling mistakes and incorrect word usage.
"Hey Shiina, how about we go take a shower together?"
[The best thing to ask a teenage girl when you're trying to break the ice is something erotic.]
Based on a later scene, that icebreaker must have worked out pretty well.
[Misako saw us just as I was coming in Shiina's mouth. No big deal.]
Shiina: "Haaahhhhnnnm, I'm going to come! ...Mom... watch me come!"
Yusuke: "Aaahhhh... Mom, I'm going to come all over Shiina!"
[Misako looked a bit distressed, as if looking at people engaging in sexual acts was something disturbing.]
Whether it's the awesome "sex lesson" where you and cousin Mio pretend to be inexperienced virgins having sex for the first time RIGHT IN FRONT OF your poor stepmother, little sister Shiina simultaneously screwing eight big black men, or Mio flinging your condom across the room and screaming that she wants to have your child, Gibo manages to break pretty much every possible social taboo that it can . . . at least as far as sex with siblings, step-parents, and cousins go. The cool part is that with fourteen different routes to follow, you'll often find yourself experiencing the reverse of a previous gut-busting scenario.
Yusuke: "Shiina, are you ready? I'm going to blow my wad inside your mother....there!"
[Shiina is completely speechless, having watched her mother and her step-brother having sex.]
Misako: "See, look in my vagina. It's full of your brother's seed. This is the proof of our love."
[Shiina had no response. I'm not surprised. She was just told that her brother was going to become her new father and then she saw us having sex. It's completely normal to be speechless after this.]
Yeah, it might lack length, and you'll find yourself repeating several key scenes, but Gibo: Stepmother's Sin has the goods where it counts. What more can I say about the most entertainingly depraved game I've ever played? I can only think of one thing.
