A quick glance at Rainbow Islands and one could easily pass it off as a run-of-the-mill platformer, nothing out of the ordinary. However upon closer inspection the game lends itself to a higher train of thought, something with a little bit more substance. A while back, I had the coolest idea ever. Rather than a side scrolling platformer, I would make a vertical scrolling game. Jumping from platform to platform is what truly defines how fun a Mario clone is, and so how about a game where you're jumping all the time? How about a game where your goal is to climb a tower, constantly going up? It's brilliant! Forever climbing, you will feel the satisfaction of a well timed jump far more often than in Mario or Sonic. You’re a rainbow-wielding, dream world conquering sorcerer. Yes, like a perverted recreation of some schoolgirl’s favorite fantasy, you wield mighty rainbows of death which can kill or trap all manner of malicious beasts, turning them into delicious snacks, peculiar knickknacks and other random paraphernalia. Collecting these scores you points, which, when amassed, award you extra lives and power-ups.
