Shepherd’s Glen looked every bit the next-gen reincarnation of Silent Hill, then new protagonist Alex Shepherd turns up in his surplus army coat, frizzy hair and a rugged stubble beard, looks you deep in the eyes and proclaims in a bold, confident voice “I’ve completely missed the point!”

Another new developer takes a shot at making a Silent Hill title, Double Helix. Do they bring in the support of hardcore fans of the series, or do they disappoint? Well, I wouldn't exactly call myself a "hardcore fan" of the series, but I am a pretty big fan of it. I think that this game is one of the more playable games in the series, overall. It is definitely better than Silent Hill: The Room, although who can say that is an achievement?

Ironically, in coming home we are farthest away from a new path to the original waterfall. Rather than sate our thirst with some ingenious new angle to this business of Otherworldliness, new developers Double Helix serve up something that closely resembles the first game only in appearance, and not in spirit, choosing to ramp up the elementary combat and miss the point altogether.
