S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl review

Reviewed December 31, 2008

Lewis Denby says: "Stalker is so far removed from the relentless fright-a-minute conventions of the genre that it somehow works on a much higher level than any of its competitors. A staggering majority of Stalker takes place in wide, open and relatively calm outdoor expanses. But the atmosphere never lets up; it only shifts from mood to mood. It's unsettling for different reasons, and on the occasions where it throws the real chills at you, the effect is mind-blowing."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl review

Reviewed July 27, 2008

Halon says: "For a game that was in development for nearly seven years, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl is a surprisingly mediocre first person shooter. It is tough to get excited about the several variations of a pistol, assault rifle, shotgun, etc that you will encounter when other games offer gravity guns, laser cannons, and other cool weapons. However there are a few nice touches of realism in the combat, from guns jamming to barely being able to sprint to carefully having to aim your shots. ..."

Probester says: "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has to be one of the more unique first person shooters to be released on the market. The game combines the ideas of a traditional first person shooter, with a horror survival aspect, as well as some RPG roots. After a long period of waiting, will gamers be pleased to finally be able to explore "The Zone"? "
