Reviewed by James Gordon (Date unavailable) Right from the opening cuscene, set on a rainy Manhatten bridge, you'll notice the wonderful lighting and weather effects. Never before have I seen such a realistic impression of rainfall shown during in-game graphics. |

Reviewed by careless_whisper (June 22, 2005) I find it ironic that Metal Gear Solid is almost singlehandedly responsible for the wave of "stealth espionage action" that still holds sway today. The game's signature sneaking tactics are now commonplace occurrences in a staggering range of games, but Metal Gear Solid always wanted to be, first and foremost, an interactive action movie. I’m convinced the creeping around corners and crawling through ventilation shafts were only there to lend cinematic credence to the thoroughly Hollywood-blockb... |

Reviewed by johnny_cairo (July 27, 2008) The agonizing ride on the blue-ball express known as Metal Gear Solid is but a mere leg of the epic, despair-inducing journey of Metal Gear Solid 2. To be fair, MGS at least had an intelligible storyline and characters who did not randomly disappear and reappear under idiotic assumed names. Its sequel abandons any pretense of predictability once the prologue is over and then consumes itself whole Ouroboros-style. What we have left is an interactive artistic meltdown that is ... |

Reviewed by kingbroccoli (April 25, 2004) Thank god for people like Hideo Kojima! There are plenty of game developers out there, most of whom are probably just lounging around their offices, regurgitating each others ideas, and releasing the twelfth sequel to their karting franchise (you know, the one that features cute little characters with big heads). It's the efforts of the Kojimas of the world that make gaming the enjoyable pastime that it is. Often delivering us titles that have moving, involving gameplay and also have a message f... |

Reviewed by mardraum (July 30, 2009) If nothing else, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is interesting. The games-as-art movement hadn't even gotten off the ground in 2001, and doing what director Hideo Kojima did with this one takes balls so huge that I expect to see him on a Paris runway now that the drop-crotch pants trend has taken off. |

Reviewed by phediuk (December 17, 2009) Metal Gear Solid 2 is the point of the series where it it’s not just a game anymore. It was here that Hideo Kojima was convinced he was making History’s Next Great Epic. This was to be the Homer’s Odyssey of the video game era. The half hour codec conversations were to leave the viewer in a state of trance, convulsing with the uncontrollable aura of Truth. When Kojima tells us “Life isn't just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA”, we are not listening ... |

Reviewed by ratking (November 14, 2002) To make my triumphant return into the world of videogame reviews, I will start with one of the great classics for Playstation 2: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Metal Gear was a classic game for the NES that based on stealth, instead of quick button pressing. Than came a game only released in Japan. Time went on, and the game that made Solid Snake a household name was made, Metal Gear Solid. After the success of that game, it was obvious we would see a sequel, and Playstation 2 did just tha... |

Reviewed by wolfqueen001 (July 08, 2010) Regarding Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty I have a dilemma. It’s not a bad game by any means, but it just doesn’t have the same flair its predecessor had. It’s true that some features, like stealth and basic combat, are remarkably improved. However, its storytelling has gone completely in the wrong direction. |
