Deltarune: Chapter 1 (Switch) review"Deltarune is one of, if not, the BEST narrative video game ever created." |
About a year and a half ago, I think I played my favorite game ever, "Deltarune" is a meta-narrative master piece made by Toby Fox, the same developer that made the 2015 classic "Undertale". Even though the website doesn't say it, deltarune currently has 4 chapters, with a 5th one coming on June 24th of this year. The game doesn't focus on its graphics, even though I think it's 32-bit graphics are rather charming, it has a nice, simple gameplay that reminds me of older gaming. But what Deltarune mainly focuses on is it's incredible story. I won't spoil much here, but if this review convinced you or if you ever are bored, play deltarune, and you will know what I'm talking about.
Deltarune chapter 1:
Once upon a time, a LEGEND was whispered among shadows.
It was a LEGEND of HOPE. It was a LEGEND of DREAMS.
It was a LEGEND of LIGHT. It was a LEGEND of DARK.
This is the legend of DELTA RUNE
For millenia, LIGHT and DARK have lived in balance,
Bringing peace to the WORLD.
But if this harmony were to shatter...
a terrible calamity would occur.
The sky will run black with terror
And the land will crack with fear.
Then, her heart pounding...
The EARTH will draw her final breath.
Only then, shining with hope...
Three HEROES appear at WORLDS' edge.
A HUMAN, a MONSTER, and a PRINCE FROM THE DARK.
Only they can seal the fountains
And banish the ANGEL'S HEAVEN.
Only then will balance be restored,
And the WORLD saved from destruction.
Today, the FOUNTAIN OF DARKNESS-
The geyser that gives this land form-
Stands tall at the center of the kingdom.
But recently, another fountain has appeared on the horizon...
And with it, the balance of LIGHT and DARK begins to shift...
These are the opening lines of deltarune that you get when you open the game, this is called the legend of deltarune. The legend essentially explains what your main mission is in this game is, to seal the fountains to keep the world from the Roaring, an event worse then anything even fiction could make up. And after the title sequence is over, you get thrown into a strange, ocean looking screen with a mysterious person typing to you over a screen asking you to create a character. At the end of the first in game sequence, the mystery man tells you that your choices don't matter in this world. (I'm trying my best not to spoil anything major, but just fast forward a bit.) Then, you wake up, your a teenager named Kris, and you've over slept for school. Once your there, you talk to your friends, Noelle Berdly, etc. And then the joyful music stops as Susie walks into your classroom. (Susie could be expelled if she gets in trouble again). Your teacher sends you and Susie out to the supply room to get chalk. And once your there and you open a door, an ominous black light glows... You still walk in, and then you start falling. You wake up in a mysterious place called the Dark World, spoken about in the legend, an odd world where things are more dangerous and you meet new friends. (I can't say legit anything else without spoiling.)
Chapters 2 - 4: I can not say anything else about these other chapters without spoiling major plot points. But just trust me, out of all chapters, 1 is still amazing but probably the worst. Just like Undertale you can also choose to spare or kill monsters.
Price: $25
Availability: Pc, Nintendo switch 1 and 2, Ps4 And 5.
In conclusion, Deltarune's main story, even though the game is only halfway done, there will be seven chapters at the end, is my favorite video game of all time, and I don't think someones life is complete without a playthrough of this fantastic game.
